Top colleges in the U.S.
Quote: Originally posted by andrzejpw Interesting list. Sad to say, but UIUC has sort of fallen off my list of colleges. I'll probably still apply there, but being an out of state student really rapes you on tuition. UIUC is better for grad school anyways. At least, supposedly. So...- strohmie

So, Where Do You Hang out the Most on the Forum?
I check the Gear FS forum most frequently, but usually post the most in the portable forum. That might change soon, because I'm probably going to get out of portables and try to get a good standalone source. I don't use my "portables" portably anyways. That said, most of the discussion that...- strohmie

Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Earphones for $99 at Amazon!
I bought one pair each of the normal and vi's and will sell the other pair on the boards once I receive them. (just don't PM me asking for the spare pair at this point ) I'm head over heels for this deal but there's the 1% of me that has to ask the question that's surely coming -- why is this...- strohmie

Chicago/Milwaukee July 11 2009 Meet Impressions
Man, that was a long drive. Great to finally get back to one of these things! I'll post a bigger response when I get some time, but generally thanks to the organizers for a great venue, those vendors who donated their items to the meet, and Ray for letting me crash at his place afterwards and...- strohmie

What are the best cheap earphones for use with an ipod?
Pretty sure he's just looking for earbuds or canal phones...not sure about clip-ons. Not a bad recommendation if he does want those, though. I'll back up the Senn MX400 recommendations (fyi, the 500s are just the 400s with a built-in volume control)...if you're lucky you may be able to find a...- strohmie

FS: Sonos ZonePlayer 80 Bundle
A nice little tax snafu (thanks Honda relocation gurus) has caused me to let go of this and my homebuilt CD player (ad forthcoming) in the interest of keeping myself out of debt. Purchased this in October but have only had one of the two zone players hooked up for any extended period of time...- strohmie

Whats your WORST recorded CDs?
Of any that I personally own, the worst by a country mile is The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike. Seriously. I can't even imagine how the album can sound any worse. And it's amusing to see Modest Mouse mentioned, because at work that's been used as an example of perhaps the most... -
Monday Night Football...Ultrasone sighting?
Very pointless thread. But maybe I'm seeing things, but I could swear the announcers are using Ultrasone headphones in the MNF studio. Which is a higher profile appearance than I'd ever have expected that brand to receive.- strohmie

Does anyone listen to orchestrated videogame music?
I have to give a bit of love to Masashi Hamauzu here of FFX and Dirge of Cerberus fame, among others. His DoC soundtrack is some fantastic dark orchestral stuff that's truly excellent. His works on FFX and SaGa Frontier II are favorites as well, and Junya Nakano's tracks on FFX are quite good... -
