For IEMs I would suggest you pick up a pair of UE-10 Pros and for cans I'd suggest RS-1's with a Hornet.

The most amazing highs I've ever heard come from a pair of Etymotic ER4P/S. Extreme detail and will give you the lows and mids too.

I listen to Grado and tend to dislike the sound produced by Senns.

The RS-1 drivers are RS-1 drivers, the 225 225 drivers. Cabling will make a negligible difference. I'd suggest springing for a used pair of RS-1's.

Etymotic ER4P/S Grado RS-1 UE-10 Pros

It is not necessary for the RS-1's to be amped, but you will get more out of them if you do. It's like putting regular grade gasoline into a turbo'd car.

If this is a headphone you'll keep for the rest of your life, go with the RS-1's. In the decision, go for a pair of used RS-1's.
