    Balsa woodies?

Has anyone experimented with balsa woodies? I'm undecided if the softness of the wood would make phones sound great or horrible. it seems to me that a balsa enclosure would sound similar to an open phone. Plus the material is super easy to work with. You could probably woody a grado with a...

A Grado story - from hate to love

So I've been avoiding Grado's since I've been into headphones - they were ugly, looked overpriced, ugly, seemed fanboyistic, known to be uncomfortable and ugly. Up to date, I've tried Senns, Beyers, AKGs, EQs and ATs, but only really liked ATH-AD's and DT880. A few weeks ago, I had found a...

    Little Dot II questions

Its not a little dot MK II, its just a "little dot II+" - does that make a diffrence? Quote: Originally Posted by Penchum Hi! The heat is a normal byproduct, so don't worry. Make sure it has room around it for air circulation, and you'll be ok. There is a bunch of information...

    Little Dot II questions

I just got a little dot II - It's amazing. I used a PIMETA before this and it was nice, but the LDII is so smooth and lucid. Anyhow, to the point, I have a few generic questions: 1) It gets really hot (as in I can touch parts of the enclosure for only a few seconds, and I'm a 'chef'). Is that...

thinking about an amp for my ad700s

    1) AD700 has to be THE most ('common') unportable headphone I've ever encountered. It is appallingly unwieldy. Where do you expect to be running around with it? 2) A PIMETA can be crammed into a case the size of a portable cassette player including batteries if you wanted to. The portable...

thinking about an amp for my ad700s

AD700's don't really benefit much from an amp - any amp you would get should be in light of a future can upgrade. As far as amps go, I really recommend spending a few hours and building your own PIMETA with a TREAD power supply. Its straight forward, easy and sounds great for little $$.

EH250 can't really sound much worse than HD212 - if that helps any.

    Headphones: Cheap+Comfortable+Isolating?

HD-280 can be had between 70-80$, they are full sized, offer more isolation than RP-21 (and better sound) and are MUCH more portable and cheaper than DT-770.

A set of headphones for me.

    1) D1000 is closed - you can't have the same soundstage as an open pair, and imho soundstage is very important. I'd take a colored phone over one with no soundstage any day. If you need closed phones, they are probably great, but sacrifices are made to make the closed. 2) In defense of...

What Do AD700's Sound Like? AD700 vs SR60? Help Needed.

AD700's sound amazing for their price (especially used at around 80$). Nuf said.

A set of headphones for me.

My iPod (jack out) can power my DT-880's to about 75% the volume of my AD-700's (when I had them) so he will just not be able to really crank them until he gets an amp. And after hearing how smooth DT-880 is, he will get an amp :P Unamped, the two sound very similar - the diffrence is that...

A set of headphones for me.

DT-880. <that is an emphasis period as well If you do go for audio technica, get the open version (ie: AD700 vs A700). Closed phones sacrifice sound quality for being closed (imho)

Upgrading. Asking for some good help/opinions

Havent heard any Grado's, but I really didn't like my pair of RP-21's (I listen to mostly classical, experimental and 70-80's rock/alternative). The RP-21's sounded flat out of my iPod and didn't improve on my home rig. If your thinking of 100$ish closed cans, I recommend HD-280's - I liked them...

How exactly does one become "fatigued" listening to music?

It's kinda like when you listen to a song too much and don't want to listen to it anymore - you still like it but your done with it. Fatigue is kinda like that except its all music.

Any way to reduce the microphonic effect of Skullcandy Ink'd

I picked up a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd ear buds dirt cheap and they are alright for what I need them for, but the microphonic effect of the cord is killing me. Is there any reasonable way of reducing this short of recabling them (a waste on 7$ buds)?

    Leaving a wallart on?

Should I be leaving my wallwart 'on'? Ive got a PIMETA and the switch turns only the PIMETA off, but before the switch is a big 4700 cap and a pseudo TREAD which the wall wart supplies. So the "TREAD" is always "on". Should I make it a habit of turning off the wallwart. Is it wasting a lot of...

    Millet or SOHA Hybrid

From what I understand, a buffer is a 1:1 'amp', ie what goes in goes out - no actual 'amplifaction' takes place. But what it does is supply more current, and removes the current load from the device doing the voltage amplification. Think of it as analogous to a 'powerloader' from the aliens...

    Millet or SOHA Hybrid

Ive also got HA3-5002's left over too. So between the Millet and the SOHA, cost aside, which would be the better amp? and from what I understand, the Millet uses a tube for all amplification, and a buffer to supply current, but the SOHA looks like it uses an opamp without any buffer - does it...

    Millet or SOHA Hybrid

I'm using a pimeta right now to drive my dt-880's. I've got an itch to build something new, and have always been fascinated by tube amps. Plus ive heard that the beyers benefit a lot from tube amplification. So it comes down to this - Millet Hybrid or SOHA Hybrid. I want to keep the cost under...

    Beyer pad dying

Tried the new dt 880 pads - still don't like the dt 770. It's too 'masculine' - that is to say, rude, obnoxious, unkept and just plain utilitarian compared to the silky, sensual smooths of the dt 880s. Gonna list them FS here :P

    Beyer pad dying

After listing to them for a bit, I don't like them much (lacking detail and soundstage), but the pads are kaput (compared to my new comphy totally fantasawsome dt-880's pads) - could it be the flat pads that are making sound bad? or do I just not like em?
