x-fi SPDIF out?
What are my options for getting SPDIF out of a x-fi without buying anything(all DIY). What is the pinout for the breakout box? I could just solder some wires from that to an RCA jack. Thanks.- LawnGnome

Biasing a soundcard opamp into class A.
So I'm wanting to eek a bit more performance out of my soundcard until I can afford a external DAC. So I'm thinking of trying to bias my soundcards opamp into Class A. I don't think it has been done before. I'm thinking of cascade JFETs. I have some spares from my PPAV2 build. What...- LawnGnome

Why does my STEPS ground measure -10v?
I tested my STEPS how Tangent says from testpoint 4 to 5. and got 21ish V. So I thought I had 21v+. But after doing some probing, I'm finding that I'm actually get 10.5V from Vout, and -10.5v from GND-out. Whats going on here?- LawnGnome

What wire gauge?
Hi, See bottom I'm building an PPAV2 that is biased and has the options, along with a STEPS. I would like if someone could look over my order and see if I missed anything before I confirm it. I just don't want to forget something. They will be mounted in the same enclosure, and I...- LawnGnome

Good Resistors
What are a good through-hole 1% 1watt resistor? I'm trying to find some resistors for a PPA build, and can't find anything good. I need something from digikey. Should I avoid wire wound resistors? What kinds are best?- LawnGnome

How much does a PPAV2 cost to build?
What is the estimated price to build these? Including the board, and a STEPS. Just average parts, elna silmic II, vishay 1% resistors, all caps populated. No bass boost or crossfeed though. I have a couple hundred coming in from tax return, and would like a new project.- LawnGnome

Why not use super high speed opamps?
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder...t/opa2822.html I am looking at some high speed opamps. And started wondering why they aren't used for audio. With the slew rate and settling time specs, I'd thing it would make for a very very detailed amp.- LawnGnome

DIY DACS
What are some good DIY DACS which would have better SQ than an XFi. I'm only considering DACs that I can buy a professionally printer board for. The alien dac doesn't seem like it would fit the bill, something a bit higher up. EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm looking for SPDIF inputs, and...- LawnGnome

Cap modded X-fi Music w/RMAA
XtremeMusic Recapped with mostly Panasonic FM's and a few FC's. ONLY recapped the caps used for power filtering and the caps on the digital side. Did NOT recap any caps for the opamps, power/filter/bypass or otherwise. They are all stock still. So I did not touch any capacitors in the...- LawnGnome

Long Leads WHY!?!?
I always see in people's mods that they have high quality capacitors, but they usually can't fit them on the board properly, so they have super long leads to get them to fit. This would most likely negate alot of the effects of the better capacitor. People need to learn to choose a can...- LawnGnome

OP AMP samples?
So, I know some companies give samples of their IC's for testing purposes. I'm wondering where I would be able to acquire a few different OP Amps from different manufacturers as samples. It would be nice to have a list of available places to get them. Thanks.- LawnGnome

Beyer DT770 mod for more detail, try it
Ok, well I had my DT770's disassembled tonight, and I was looking at the white felt, and the black piece that surrounds it. And I've heard people before say that the piece of felt presses against the driver and dampens it. And I looked, and found it doesn't touch the driver at all. So...- LawnGnome

Plane Vs Conveyor Belt
A plane is standing on a runway that can move (some sort of band conveyer). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but in the...- LawnGnome
