Any old fart head-fi'ers still around?

Hi there, Never posted a ton, but I'm old school. What a bummer about the group buys for DIY kit. Sounds like the crooks from kickstarter and the like moved in here. Anyway, kind of ended my head-fi spree with some AKG 601s and never looked back. Fun journey. Honestly, I'm into speakers...

    Replacing Laser Pickup: Marantz SA-14

Hey Head-Fi, Have any of you successfully replaced a laser pickup in a Marantz SA-14? The old laser won't read any discs. I already performed the standard troubleshooting, like cleaning and lubrication. With this being a newer vintage item, many of the old school POT adjustments are replaced...

Tonight I'm having some Magic Hat - not quite Pale Ale. A light refreshing beer (or 2) to drink after a hard days work. Probably not the highest ranking beer out there, but I think it tastes good.

    New router, annoying buzz...

The 2nd power supply on the router itself is most likely to blame. What you are experiencing is coil whine from the inductor(s). Cheap and/or faulty board components would be my guess if it's a brand new unit. First, take it back if you can. If not, you could have someone replace the...

Rant : PC crash and reboot

As stated by some.. Download Prime95 and run a torture test. This can help you isolate CPU/Memory problems. If failing, try and rule out memory by downloading and running Memtest86 (at least 10 passes). If this passes, then CPU could be at fault. If system fails both Prime95 and Memtest86...

And tonight we have Terrible ale! lol Found this lovely dark at a general store in Plainfield. They claim to be a Microbrew HQ for the region which is cool. A nice selection of local and import brews can be found here. Quite complex on the palate. Dark fruits, heavy malt, and strong...

Bummer nhancakes! Can't believe it would be so bad in the bottle. Expired by chance? I know Young's bottles their brews in dark glass so sun shouldn't have bothered it Perhaps try a pint'ish bottle from a large reseller who moves a lot of stock. That way you're less likely to get the...

I wanted to bring up a parts issue with the current BOM of the GrubDAC. If you opt for the standard C5, C15 330uf 6.3V, 2.5mm ls,6.3mm dia max, 11.2mm high2Mouser647-UHE0J331MED caps instead of the C5, C15 alts, the hammond case will not close properly. The 11.2mm height of these caps is too...

Should this little DAC sound so good? I have to say I'm really impressed! My reference source is a Pioneer PD-91 and the Grub holds its own at a different level. I find the Grub's SQ is very transparent, detailed, airy, clean, and clear sounding. I'm noticing many more flaws in recording...

Looks like you guys have been enjoying some nice brews. I miss drinking my Belgium beers since I moved to Vermont! There are some good micros around here, but they mostly produce IPAs it seems. Don't get me wrong, I love a good IPA. But I miss the variety from Texas. Someone drink a St...

My best find so far is a Pioneer PD-91 for $15. Found it at some small thrift-store back in Austin, TX. Pioneer PD-91 on TVK The laser lens popped off, which is very common with Pioneers of this vintage it seems. I glued it back on and enjoyed the unit for a long time, but in the end I...

    Go-Vibe V6

Go-Vibes were and still are great little amps. I own a V6M as well as a V7 Max. There's the standard V6 that runs on 12V and then the V6M which is special and runs on 24V. I believe all versions of the V7 are 12V only. If your V6 is using the AD8610/20 op-amps then it is the 24V M version.
