    Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.   Interesting note about the need for desktop setup; I was hoping for exactly the opposite. To my ears, TH-900 works scary well straight out of iPhone, and I'm also not too sure about the "recessed mids" sentiment, since when pitted against SR-009/KGSSHV...

    Sony's new flagship 2014 - MDR-Z7

Just came back from Sony store after a quick listen to the Z7; I'd even say "embarrassingly quick" listen, because they immediately sounded very "congested" to me, on any track I tried. Source - iPhone 6 with lossless tracks that I know very well and listened to many times, both straight out of...

SPL Phonitor Heapdhone Monitoring Amplifier - Head-Fi TV, Episode 009

Reporting back after getting one and trying it with the TH900: it mates absolutely flawlessly. There is also a -20dB switch which is there specially for low-impedance headphones. I'm using mine with this switch off, don't really see any need for it.

Quote:   Thanks for the info. I do understand that a lot of the home chemistry isn't good for one's health, so stick to well-ventilated environments and short exposures.   The stuff that I used is sold under the name "Shellite", which I assumed, probably incorrectly, being the same as...

milosz, Michgelsen - thanks for the info; I think I'll stick to the ethanol.   spritzer - in my original post I've included a picture of the instructions printed on the original Stax box, which says, verbatim: "The remaining old double-sided tape should be cleaned by rubbing with absorbent...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think I'll try to use an old credit card to scrape off most of the residue, and then clean with ethanol. Actually, the box with the 507 pads has printed instrustions on it, which recommend ethanol or benzene.   For your enjoyment, here's probably the...

If anybody could suggest the best way of taking off the old pads from a 4070 (or a Lambda) without tearing/blistering skin on one's fingers when trying to "roll" the residual sticky off, I would be very much obliged...   Thanks :)

Advice needed on a 'final' TOTL Electrostatic amp within $2k price range.

I'm immensely enjoying my Transistor-Amp V4, built for me by Andreas (www.high-amp.de). When paired with the SR-007A, it is very clearly superior to my Stax SRM-007tA, which is collecting dust now. To my ears the sound is noticeably more open and transparent.   I believe it pushes 1500V...
