SOLVED : Do NOT plug a DAC into the Phono jack on the Macintosh.

I have the PS3 > Dacmagic > Mcintosh MA6900 Integrated > B&W 805S When I turn the Dacmagic volume up (and obviously the Macs down) the sound starts distorting, horribly. But when I turn the DAC vol halfway, the distortion is gone....the same thing when I use the IPAD > Airport Express.   But...

I can't believe some of these recommendations! The Grado and Sennheiser sounds are completely different-night/day difference. IMO: The closest thing to keeping the detail and dynamics with a more defined bass are the Beyer DT 880.

Here is the breakdown of Grados as best as I can offer. Im a newbie so take it with a grain of salt: SR60: Detailed, Light Bass SR80: Detailed, Tighter Bass SR125: More Detailed, Tighter Bass, Somewhat Bright, good separation SR225: Very Detailed, Liquid Mids, Tight Bass, great separation...

Keep in mind that as you go higher up in the Senn range, you will need an amp to drive the phones. Especially the 600s. I owned the 497 for a while and thought it was an amazing headphone before listening to 580s (discontinued), which completely shattered my view of the 497.
