Audioengine D1 vs JDS ODAC ?

I was debating this too, until I realized that the ODAC doesn't have any volume adjustment. I'll be using it with Airmotiv 4s most of the time, so volume adjustment is key because it's not easy to adjust the volume on Airmotivs. Plus, it also has a headphone amp built in, for those times I'll...

What to listen for while auditioning high end computer speakers like MM-1 and A5+?

The way I lean depends on what I'm listening to and at what volume. Jazz, softer rock, and low volumes are much better on the MM-1, but electronica, harder rock, post-punk and louder volumes are better on the A5+. The MM-1 are amazing for what they are, but they are limited: small drivers, not...

What to listen for while auditioning high end computer speakers like MM-1 and A5+?

Ugh, I don't know, now I'm leaning toward keeping the A5+ just because they can get so much louder than the MM-1, and sometimes I just want to rock out at my desk!!!

    looking for new computer speakers

Yes that is definitely true, but they are everywhere and carry that speaker. While there I was lucky to find a bargain price on the MM-1, so that's what I ended up getting; I listened to that, the Klipsch and the Andrew Jones, and I would have taken the Klipsch over the A. J. for computer use...

    looking for new computer speakers

You can go listen to those Andrew Jones Pioneers at Best Buy; I did and was not impressed. If you want small form factor, A2 would probably be a good choice, or, if you want more bass, then the Klipsch promedia 2.1 would also be reasonable (not audiophile quality, but nonetheless decent for the...

What to listen for while auditioning high end computer speakers like MM-1 and A5+?

I'm currently auditioning two sets of computer speakers, the B&W MM-1 and the Audioengine A5+. This is my first time auditioning audio gear this high-end, and I'm not entirely sure what all to listen for. I was able to get the MM-1 for about half price (open box at Best Buy), and I got the A5+...

    Can't stand NE-7m microphonics. Next?

I got these to be used with my iphone 3g and MBP, but the microphonics drive me crazy even when I'm sitting pretty still, like at a table at a cafe. I was thinking about trying the addiem, since they are reported to have minimal microphonics, but the lukewarm reviews have me concerned. I'd...

Comfort priority: PX100, PK3, or IEM?

Wow, NuForce ships really, really fast. I placed the order yesterday afternoon and the arrived before noon today. Of course, I live nearby, but still... wasn't expecting them for 3-5 days. They sound good so far but haven't had time for burn in or to find the best fit/seal.

Comfort priority: PX100, PK3, or IEM?

Thanks, everyone. I went ahead and ordered the NE-7m and the Comply T400 tips. The T400s will work with my old EP-630s as well. I can always return the NE-7m if I need to.

Comfort priority: PX100, PK3, or IEM?

Well, what they say around here about head-fi being bad for your wallet is definitely true. I've recently found full-sized headphone bliss in the D2000, but now I can't stand to listen to my stock apple earbuds. I've also learned to hate my car speakers, but that's another story. I have some...

    Full-size headphones for iPhone?

AD700 is great if you're OK with open, but if you'll be going out in public with them you will want closed, like the A700. But also in that case you won't want them to be too big, so that sort of rules out the A700. I use my D2000 with my iPhone 3G all the time, and love them, but mostly at...

best closed headphones for around ~$100-125?

I had the A700 and the Creative Aurvana Live! (same as D1001), and I think the A700s are better in terms of SQ and comfort. But they are very big, and the fit is loose, which makes them comfy, but if your head will be bent over (think reading at a desk), they will feel like they're falling off...

Denon D1001 VS Audio Technica AD700

The AD700 have a loose fit, fine if I'm sitting upright, but if you tilt your head forward they will slide a bit. The 1001 are much less comfortable, but still not uncomfortable. The sound quality of the AD700 is better in every conceivable way (except maybe bass). Really, it comes down to what...

    Is buy.com shipping the D2000 for $197?

Is it worth placing an order there, or will it be out of stock forever? The only places that have it in stock cost like $100 more. Ouch.

D2000, DT 770 pro/80, AKG 272HD, or Ultrasone? Comfort priority

For everyone who finds the D2000 comfortable, do the ear pads make your ears hot and sweaty like the pleather ones do? I think the D2000 has actual leather, which should do better in this respect, but I'd like confirmation. My main gripe with the A700 and Aurvana Live! was hot ears due to pleather.

D2000, DT 770 pro/80, AKG 272HD, or Ultrasone? Comfort priority

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was looking at the DT770 pro over the 2005 consumer because it is $80 cheaper and would be easier to drive. I do greatly prefer the fabric/velour of the AD700 to the pleather on the A700, but I gather that the D2000 is a higher quality material. It sounds like...

D2000, DT 770 pro/80, AKG 272HD, or Ultrasone? Comfort priority

I'm stuck beween these ~$200 choices. I want a comfortable closed can, preferably with fabric or velour earpads, but the priority is comfort. I can't differentiate between the Ultrasones; I find the product lines very confusing (pro or HFI? what's up with switchable earpads?. I currently have...

Closed phones without hot ears? Is it possible?

OK, the AKG K272 look like they'd fit the bill. Should I try those next? I'm also considering the Denon D2000, but after the Live! experience I'm a bit wary of them.

Closed phones without hot ears? Is it possible?

I'm currently within the return period for a pair of Creative Aurvana Live!, which are nearly identical to the Denon D1001, and the Audio Technica A700. The A700 is far more comfortable and sounds far better, but my ears still get hot. My problem with the 1001 / Live! was both the sound and...

Looking for good headphones with a focus on comfort

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, but I wouldn't quite say I'm "totally satisfied" with the stock earbuds. Still, comfort is key for me, and I'm looking to spend no more than $150. You need to figure out how much you care about isolation (how little outside noise you hear) and leakage...

    Audio-Technica ATH-A700 for office?

IEMs are out because I just can't stand to have those things in my ears for long periods of time. I want to be able to sit at my desk for several hours at a time, which is one of the reasons why the AD-700's velour pads and open (breathable) design appealed to me. But the leakage looks like...

    Audio-Technica ATH-A700 for office?

Which ones aren't suitable? The A700, the closed model, or the AD700 or Denon 1001? I thought that with the A700 being closed and all they would certainly be OK for this use. Am I missing something? Thanks!

    Audio-Technica ATH-A700 for office?

I'm about to purchase these for use at the office (cubicles, people 10+ feet away). I really wanted to get the open version AD700, but I'm afraid of annoying people with sound leakage. Is this a good decision? Requirements: --Budget up to $150 --Music: alternative, electronic, world...

Headphones for cubicle environment, up to $100?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've been reading more, and I think that in my office an open model would be OK--the leakage shouldn't annoy people much as long as leakage isn't a huge problem with that model. The AKGs and Denon 1001s look promising, but I'm worried about the pressure on...

Headphones for cubicle environment, up to $100?

I've recently started working in a cubicle, and can't stand to have canalphones in for that long, so I need to get some new headphones. It's not that noisy a place, so I don't care about isolation, but I don't want to annoy everyone else with my music. I don't listen to it very loudly, but my...
