CanJam SoCal 2018 (April 7-8, 2018) Impressions thread

I was at CanJam SoCal on Sunday and I listened to them at the Woo Audio booth. Haven't had time to put together all of my thoughts about my experience yet, but hope to do so in the next few days. Anyway, I was REALLY disappointed in the Mysphere headphones. They have absolutely no...

    Woo Audio WA8 Review - Head-Fi TV

Two questions: 1) How is your WA8 connected to your source? Are you using it as a DAC or as an amplifier only? 2) How loud are you listening to your music? I just tried a SPL meter on my HE1000 V2 with my WA8 connected directly from my PC with a USB cable. I then set the volume knob to 10...

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

I'm not sure I would include ROI on any high end audio purchase. The ROI on almost any high end purchase will be poor. That said, the amount of sonic bliss you get from such purchases cannot be overestimated. I am hearing my music collection all over again with what seems like new ears. And...

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

My WA33 impressions, after owning it for two months or so: To start, no one needs one of these. It is a superfluous item to some degree, and it probably measures worse than the Chord DAVE that I feed it with. Doesn’t matter. This is easily the BEST sounding amplifier I have ever heard. I...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Might be the best feature to you (and to me), but he asked how to tune the bass down and I told him. I actually think it's pretty cool that you can tune the bass to your needs and it almost makes me wish it came with a factory insert that you could place into that vent to EQ the bottom end to...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

You can tape off the oval venting port on the upper edge of the earcup to get less bass. The more you tape off, the less bass you'll hear.

WA22 let's roll some tubes (Done Mod, Burnning-in)

The USAF 596 is awesome. I don't have a WE422A, so I don't know how much better or worse it is than the 596. But compared to the Sophia Electric, PS Vane 422B replica, and Brimar 5Z4GY tubes, it has superior soundstage and bass definition. The most complete sounding of all of my rectifiers...

WA22 let's roll some tubes (Done Mod, Burnning-in)

I have that setup, but with the USAF 596 tube instead. Definitely think it approaches the WA33, but not quite as powerful or holographic. Still really awesome, and better than almost any other tube setup I have ever heard. The WA33 should be getting to me in a month or two and I can't wait...

    Woo Audio WA8 Review - Head-Fi TV

No. The WA8 relies purely on its internal battery supply, even when it's plugged in.

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

I think for power, usually the bigger the better. I find it matters more with amplifiers than anything else.

    Woo's New Flagship WA33

Most people upgrade the power cord at this level of amplifier. I am currently using the PS Audio AC12 with my WA22, which will soon go over to my WA33. Not even close as far as sound quality--much more impact and slam out of the big cable compared to stock. BTW, the WA33 pricing just...

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

So I have these, and they are currently my third favorite headphone, after the Utopia and the HE1000 V2. I think they're world's better than the other TOTL closed back headphones on the market, including the Eikon and the Ether Flow C. But then again, they're my ears and yours might be different...

Upgrade to Flagship - Recommendations Required

The WA8 and Hugo2 are both desktop level sound that just happen to be portable. The reason I suggest them is because they combine a DAC and an amp and it stays within your budget. And I'd put the sound of both of those against anything in this price range. If I wanted to separate the DAC and...

Upgrade to Flagship - Recommendations Required

For that budget, I'd do a Focal Utopia ($4000) with a Woo WA8 ($1800) or a Chord Hugo 2 ($2200). That is within your budget and will give you world class sound. And if you ever decide that you want to upgrade the DAC/AMP section, you have some flexibility to do so later. But this combo is...

Effect Audio Boutique IEM Cables Giveaway #2

I have the Campfire Andromedas, and cables make a huge difference in the sound. I'd love to try these out to comment on the differences in how they sound!

    Win a SUSVARA

I love the sound of my HE1000 V2--smooth and refined, with amazing balance. I think that the SUSVARA would be even better, and I would love the chance to review them against the HE1000 V2 and the Focal Utopia.

Did you guys try swapping the cable connection between left and right to see if it's the cable or the connection?

    Dave vs. Audio gd Master11?

They're not even close. The DAVE has the most lifelike sound I have ever heard from any DAC. The Master 11 sounds very artificial to me. YMMV but to me its not a fair fight.

Yes, the fit of the Slappa case is a little tight at first, but loosens up after a day or two. I love it--no extra bulk than what you need and great protection.

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

Actually, Bob's pair was very much in line with the other Utopias measured. Tyll's pair was the only oddball. This is gonna come down to personal preferences. I very much prefer the sound the Utopia over the LCD-4, and I am sure mine is in line with the other 6 measured. It's all about your...

Campfire Audio - Introducing 2 new models Hello Andromeda and Nova

This is awesome--thanks for showing. I have the Litz cable terminated in the 3.5 right angle plug, and the Litz Lightning cable for the iPhone. The Lightning cable definitely has a lower Z, as the increase in bass is quite noticeable. So much so that I had to change the tips I used to get the...

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

The WA22 is not a great pairing for the Z1R. Bass gets boomy and bloated. I personally think the Z1R sounds best out of leaner amps, but I think it sounds the best overall out of my WA8.

    Woo Audio WA-8

Yeah, I just sold my PM-3's. They're great cans for the money, but they were getting no head time because of my other cans. But yeah, the WA8 does tend to make almost every headphone I have sound very very good.

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

The Hugo 2 is an amazing unit. I can compare it to the DAVE, as I listened to both side by side for quite a while at CanJam. Unfortunately, that was with an Eikon and not my Z1R, so I can't comment exactly how the Z1R would sound. However, I was very impressed how the Hugo 2 sounded very...
