Effect Audio launches the Axiom IEM

Dunno what about the engineering is impressive. It's just a connector.

Effect Audio - AKA Balance Adapter

What is with the audiophile obsession with using metal blocks to block emi/rf???? As an electrical engineer, I can assure you that you can go ahead and wrap your electronics in tinfoil and it would be just as good if you're trying to make some sort of Faraday cage.

Sharing my friend's poor experience with Woo Audio's customer service

I suspect a lack of self biasing or improper grounding between amp and case. But I will wait time see if they answer my previous post or if there’s something else up. There’s only that much hands off debugging to do

Sharing my friend's poor experience with Woo Audio's customer service

good CS for a broken product isn’t a great way to go either. Anyways I’m just interested from an engineering perspective. No stake in the CS problem.

Sharing my friend's poor experience with Woo Audio's customer service

Now that the CS side of this incident is over, I’m curious as to what actually the technical issue here is. Assuming moon audio cable isn’t broken, I’m confused by why this 5th connection is producing such a problem: 1) where is the ground reference - the case or the ground of the line in...

Lotoo PAW S1 - Designed for HIFI on the go with Lotoo PAW quality and the first USB DAC-AMP with dual 3.5mm & 4.4mm output

The long and short of the interference issue is as follows: Poor internal shielding. Putting it so close to the phone (maybe next to the antenna) results in this. Circuitry is not fully balanced. In theory interference picked up should cancel in a fully diff circuit, but if we use a...

    Campfire Audio New IEM release

You bet. The "indeed" is the biggest quantifier. After having done the rounds with all the ToTLs that I'm interested in, I'm curious to see how this will fare.

flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

It doesn't. Transformers step voltage up and down and for current the inverse is true.

    Astell&Kern KANN CUBE

All devices have output impedance. Just ask an electrical engineer (me). That said it seems this will have very high OI so if you plug in some low impedance earphones you're going to suffer from massive power loss due to the impedance division.

Astell & Kern SR25: The next A&norma player

Can I ask why, if having such a massively tilted screen is so ergonomic, that the higher end models like SP1000M and SP1000 do not have tilted screens. Why is the lower end player subject to this weird design.

Toranku's Thoughts and Reviews (and target EQ filters!)

Inability to design a crossover network with an acceptable impedance should be viewed as a failure of design not as a “we need more power” problem .

    Campfire - Solaris

Some snakeoil belief that pasting stickers onto audio equipment makes it sound better. As an engineer, it makes no sense to me and is offensive to logic.
