Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I just cut up some old apple earbuds and soldered them together. Doesn't look great but who cares

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

The Beats drivers have six points of contact whereas the Shure drivers have two. Daisy chaining wouldn't work even if I could get the screws out, sadly

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I labeled the drivers with sharpie before I swapped them. RB is beats(right) and LS is Shure(left). They are in the picture I posted

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I just need a cord that'll fit (and preferably lock) in the jack, but other than that it went well. Though a chip of my exacto that I was using to remove the glue got stuck on the diaphragm side of the driver. I got it off with plastic tweezers.

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I totally agree. It was a thought experiment. It would, however, be amusing.

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

But I don't think I'll use it because it would take up too much space

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I'm pretty sure I just conceptualized a method of having a hot swappable driver system that involves Legos. Tomorrow's going to be interesting…

That would have just been a benefit. The true purpose is to better them with higher quality drivers. Hopefully the new layout will not botch the audio.

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

I can't get any of them to budge. I think I'm just going to go back to a two wire set up…

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

True. There really is no "good" way to market headphones is there? So to those who don't research t's really a brand loyalty battle.

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

Sorry, I thought they used the same driver, as opposed to just the same size. I looked at their website, they don't seem to advertise anything about their headphones except that they have a lot of base, some models are lighter, "Practically Indestructible", made for DJs, sleek, etc... It's all...

Evidently. Who knows what'll happen now

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

Thanks. I can definitely attempt the replacement while I have them open. You'd think that they would use a better driver. That they use that same driver really says something about their business model...

Yeah, hopefully I don't mess anything up too badly...

Shure SRH940 and Beats Pro Potential Driver Swap

Let me preface this by saying how much I like to fix things. As such I have acquired two sets of functional, but broken headphones that apparently were inconvenient to their previous owners.   The first pair is a set of Shure SRH940s that have cracked at their hinge (an overwhelmingly common...
