    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I have that Indigo Girls CD and listened to it with my HD800 headphones and do not hear any ringing. So, not the recording nor the HD800's fault I would think.   Tim

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I have never understood all the fuss either. Before I got the HD800s I was nervous about the possible brightness as I have always hated speakers with an edge but, at the same time, like the clarity. However, my music collection is all CDs and primarily Classical. I would have to listen to early...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I have the Asgard 2 running my HD800 phones. I almost never hear any brightness unless it it on the recording. I was worried, when I bought the Sennheisers, that I would not like them as I hate painful highs. However, I listen to just CDs and classical at that. From what I read, this is what the...

    R2R/multibit vs Delta-Sigma - Is There A Measurable Scientific Difference That's Audible

RE: long term listening. Why is it most people can hear differences, when they know which is being listened to, with very short sessions? Only blind ones seem to cause this confusion and stress. Interesting.   Tim

My findings as well. I have a lowly Schitt Audio Asgard 2 paired with my HD800s and find no sibilance nor harshness. As I have mentioned before, I listen to well recorded CDs and mostly Classical music. Even some of the 60s era rock I have is not unpleasant with this setup.   Tim

    Schiit Owners Unite

I went from Windows 7 to 10 and had a few issues. Could not open photos at all, sort of a path not found error. The thumbnail clearly showed the photo and I could open them via Photoshop. I had to reset the file extension default program. I also had no sound even though it showed working in...

Schiit Asgard 2 is real hot

Mine gets quite warm but never too hot to touch, certainly not the volume knob.   from Schiit's website:   What does Class A really mean? For us, Class A means Class A—that is, the output stage is running its maximum current all the time. This is a real Class A amp, biased by a current...

What's the best amp for HD800

I have an Asgard 2 with my HD800 and love the setup. I don't hear any of the harshness nor sibilance so many seem to. However, I only listen to CDs that are well recorded and mastered. One day I did listen to a Pandora feed from my Oppo and was not too impressed. GIGO.   Tim

HD800 too bright for violin recordings

I use an OPPO BDP-103 to a Schitt Audio Asgard 2 and don't find them bright. I listen to classical the majority of the time but only CDs, and well recorded ones at that. Reading all the consternation about them being bright and amp sensitive had me worried but I need not have been. They are the...

Magni Uber 2 vs Vali vs Asgaurd?

Yeah I hear you. I feel the same when people claim to hear audible differences in EVERYTHING. After a while, I trust in the science and don't bother with cable sound and most well designed electronics. Speakers, headphones and recordings have huge audible differences. With speakers, rooms have a...

Magni Uber 2 vs Vali vs Asgaurd?

I know double blind talk is verboten here but I really don't believe amps sound different. As long as they are suited to the load, have flat frequency response, low distortion, etc. Many of the tube amps do not meet those standards it would appear. Plus, as we all have heard, people will nearly...

Magni Uber 2 vs Vali vs Asgaurd?

I have a Magni, which I used with my HD580s.When I got the HD800s I bought an Asgard 2. I did some basic switching back and forth, nothing level matched, and really was not sure I could hear any difference. My guess was the Asgard was more firm in the bass on both phones but I would not put...

Review: An "artistic" comparison between the PS1Ke and the HD800

But what does "feeling more musical" mean? More mid-range? Bass? Less treble? This is all about frequency response and distortion. That is pretty much all headphones do. Reminds me of guys taking about motorcycle engine designs that have more soul.   Tim

Review: An "artistic" comparison between the PS1Ke and the HD800

The "artistry" should all be on the recording side of things. I would not expect a transducer to be able to produce that. I should hope that it would accurately reproduce whatever the musicians and recording engineers were able to put down.   Tim

    HD580 to...what?

Forgot to update my post. I picked up a pair of open box HD800s with full 30 day return if I did not like them. After just a few days I knew they would not be going back. In a way they are funny, you don't always appreciate what they do after a short listening session. However, going back to my...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I must admit I am surprised that so many HD800 owners really don't appear to like them that much. I read tons of stuff before picking up a pair and was nervous about all the bright & sibilant comments. Along with bloated bass, edgy treble really turns me off. Mine are running off a Schiit Asgard...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I read some of the NwAvGuy's rants about Schiit gear. Also read lots of other comments and reviews as well as how SA dealt with the original Asgard issues. I bought a Magni, really liked the product and the company's off-beat persona. I then got a Bifrost Uber and now an Asgard 2. Just really...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just bought an Asgard 2 and the FAQ, in the manual, has this:   I hear hum through the headphones, what do I do? You may have a ground loop. To fix a ground loop, try a GFCI outlet or a ground loop isolator.   Mine did hum like crazy before putting a plug adapter on the end of the 3 prong...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

After years of using a pair of HD580s I got the bug to upgrade. Listened to HD650s, LCD2 and3s, TH900s and HD800s. I found a open box pair of HD800s in perfect shape, with warranty, for 20% off, so I took the plunge. I mostly listen to classical music and these seemed the best for that genre.  ...

    The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

I have an old, made in Ireland, pair of HD580s and found the HD600 grill did open things up and I perceived no negatives relating to them. A few months ago, I took my pair to a store that had the HD800 and HD650s so I could compare. I really preferred my pair to the 650s. The 800s sounded better...
