I see that a some of you have rooted your devices.  The main reason to root for me would be to get Android 6 installed on it ... Have anyone succeed in upgrading the Android version to the latest?

It also depends a lot on what you friend was using to play the songs on Iphone 5.   When I use my IPhone as source,  I use high-res music (192/24 or DSD) and the Onkyo IOS player.  If I were to use Apple Music streaming, it would be a very different experience ... 

  I see no difference between feeding the LH Labs from my IPhone or the DP-X1.  If I could go back in time, I would probably not have invested on the DP-X1 to be just a USB DAC Source.  BUT, since carrying the LH Labs DAC and the DP-X1 is cumbersome at times, I've started to use just the DP-X1...

  I agree ! If you press on OK the Onkyo Player takes ownership of the driver and it looks it won't work with other apps.  

It is a DAC/Amp.  I just got it work .. Had to turn off the DP-X1, start, connect the USB OTG and say "Cancel" on the USB pop-up screen and it worked with Apple Music. Thanks

Does anyone got third party Applications (Tidal, Apple Music, Pandora) to stream through the USB/OTG to an external Amp? For me, only the Onky Player app is successfully streaming to my external amp.  Any tricks?

I think you are correct ... I've just try "native" with my Onkyo DP-X1 and it was no go :( All worked fine with DoP!
