Pittsburgh, PA --Saturday, March 14--Impressions Thread
Thanks to both Music To Your Ears for hosting and to Joe for arranging the meet. I appreciated having the chance check out everything that I did. I was most impressed with LCD3, Alpha Primes, and Hugo Chord. Don't really want to say much more than that other than everyone was so kind to... -

At the absolute worst, Music To Your Ears will still be open and they have quite a few products to sample. You wouldn't be wasting your time, that's for sure.- stevetoney

Awesome. I hope to see you there as well! I post my recordings to both of those sites. My taper name/id is 'tonedeaf'. Perhaps you've grabbed some of my recordings...I'm pretty active in the Pittsburgh jamband music scene and try to get out at least a couple times a month. I'll be...- stevetoney

It looks like I'm in. Not sure when I'll arrive or how long I'll stay. Probably long enough to try everything out and chit chat around. I bought my first pair of higher end headphones, a pair of HD600 from Music To Your Ears, a couple years ago so I'm famiar with them. Great group of folks...- stevetoney

Parasound zdac reviews?
There's certainly nothing wrong or weak with the amp. I'm listening now to a woo audio wa3 tube amp and I like it better than the sound I was getting from the zdac but this is purely from a sound flavor perspective and nothing else.- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
Thanks. I don't want to turn this into a 700 discussion...but your brief summary is right about where I'm at with my feelings as well. What's interesting is that the HD600 were my first higher end pair of headphones and though I haven't had them that long (ya know...head-fi upgrade-itis)...- stevetoney

Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread
I'm about six weeks into IE80 ownership. I'm wondering about a replacement cable. The stock cable seems quite lightweight so I was thinking about something a little heavier gauge, but my bigger thing is that I like the cables on my Shure SE215 that have an integrated hook that I can loop up...- stevetoney

Looking for budget-fi IEMs
Another vote for Shure SE215 which I found to be very comfortable. After replacing several other $75 - $100 range IEMs within a year of purchase, I enjoyed that the SE215s have lasted three years of quite heavy daily use and enjoyed the sound alot...that is until I got the upgrade bug and...- stevetoney

Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.
I have an SR-71a and lost one of the thumb screws that holds the back panel on. I stopped by Home Depot and Lowes to see if I could find something that would work, but nothing was small enough for these posts. So I contacted Ray Samuels which is what I should have done in the first place and...- stevetoney

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought
On my last business trip a few weeks ago, I had an hour to kill so I stopped by an airport sound shop...what's in called Invision or something like that. Anyway, chit chatted with the guy for a bit about my recent money pit hobby...that being headphones and he understood completely. Naturally...- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
Just bought a pair of broken in HD700. Evaluating against HD600. I like them both. The 600 are kinda like apple pie or chicken soup...they're simple and not very complex. Easy to like. The HD700 detailed and a little more complex to figure out since I'm enjoying what I get from them, but...- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
I enjoyed the se215's for over 2 years. About 2 months ago I bought my HD600's. I agree that they are both great value's, but the se215 are a great value $100 IEM and the HD600 are great value $350 open back headphones. So, I can't really put the se215 in the same league, sound-wise, as the...- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
I wouldn't say that. I've got IE80's and HD600's. They certainly don't sound alike, but my take is they're just targeted to different markets and/or tastes. As far as I'm concerned, Sennheiser can certainly be excused for making headphones and/or IEMs that aren't sonicly neutral, just because...- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
OK, so I'll bring the subject back to HD600 appreciation. I've owned mine now for almost 2 months and I really like them alot, though I think I'm liking the flavor of my new IE80's a little bit more. The true and honest sound of the HD600 is obviously their hallmark though. I do alot of...- stevetoney

Quote: Thanks. As I said, I did the search and didn't find any specific tests, which you've confirmed. Why is it not legitimate to ask if such testing has been done if I do the search and find none? There's so much talk about the improvement cables make, for someone new to...- stevetoney

Parasound zdac reviews?
I bought a Zdac and a pair of DT990 premiums from a local dealer. When I got them home, the headphones distorted using the on-board headphone amp. That's when I learned that I'd walked out with a pair of 32ohm DT990 premiums (I'm a head-fi noob so I didn't know they came in three different...- stevetoney

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
I'm a long time audio taper and we've had many discussion on taper forums about the merits of cable upgrades. I'm a new member here on head-fi and a new owner of a pair of HD600s. While there's never been a debate that cable upgrades for higher quality and better reliability can be cost...- stevetoney

Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.
I recently bought an SR-71a off of ebay and when I got it, one of the first thoughts I had after using it was that I needed to be careful not to lose either of the thumbscrews that hold the back panel in place. Less than a month later I lost one of the screws. LOL. Fortunately, I contacted Ray...- stevetoney
