LH Labs' gorgeous Vi Dac ( Tube + SS outputs )

What do we think the odds are that our Vi Tube units ever get delivered? I'm fearing the worst at this point.   I'm waiting on a fully upgraded Vi Tube ∞ with CCX 7 module, Siemens E88CC/6922 Tubes & Tube Power Cap upgrade.   I'm sure glad I picked up a cheap used Cambridge DacMagic + about...

OPPO Proudly Announces the Sonica Grand Wi-Fi Speaker. North American Premiere at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (Oct 7-9)

I would buy one for the guest room if they had the foresight to add an optical digital input.   I use chromecast audio throught out the house so unfortunately I can't support their proprietary system.

Yes, it's just a small sub with dual opposing 6.5" woofers and there seemed to be issues with blending when it was on the floor. It seems to blend better with the Fostex monitors up on the desk. I don't have measurements to substantiate, just my ears. Why do you ask?

LH Labs' gorgeous Vi Dac ( Tube + SS outputs )

I opened a ticket at the support site because I was having the same issues with nothing showing up in my account.   Gina updated my marketplace account and now everything is mostly correct in there.   I have a Lightspeed 1G cable in my order for some reason instead of a 2G and they're...

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

Who will be disappointed? The average customer that failed to pull the trigger on IGG?   At the end of the day, the proof will be in it's performance! If it performs better than other $1,000 DACs then why would anyone be disappointed?

Oppo PM-1: A New Planar Magnetic Headphone!

If you study acoustics, they say that metal "rings". I'm not saying that in some implementations, metal can't or won't be better than plastic. Every design challenge, including different materials for drivers, pads or enclosures poses it's own set of compromises. It's the engineer/designer's job...

Oppo PM-1: A New Planar Magnetic Headphone!

Too rich for my blood. I was hoping for a MAX price of $899. I'll likely buy the matte black Alpha Dog's for now and wait to see about the PM-2.   A closed headphone is much more useful for me anyways as pretty much all of my headphone listening is done at work or while traveling. I wonder if...

This is the response I got from them when I asked how much juice was required to drive them adequately. I also asked for an update on proposed shipping:

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

EDIT Quote:   With how incredibly well the Geek Out measured and in seeing these types of comments, I'm pretty excited about having a Geek Out and upgraded PulseX and LPS on the way.

Wow there are some serious systems going on in here!! My rig barely holds a candle. I'm guessing these are all pretty much directed at gaming?

They're a little imposing, but I really like them. I bought them because I didn't want a sub in my PC system, but I still wanted bass that reaches down into the 40Hz range. That doesn't leave much of an option aside from going with a big speaker with a big woofer (in this price range for sure)...

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

They also sell some mega-buck gear (Dynaudio, Focus Audio, Modwright, etc..) so it will be interesting to potentially hear it in a super high end system. I'll be demo'ing balanced headphones there (that's why they're letting me take it in) to see what I want to buy. Right now I only have low...

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

It will be tough to answer that question before I have the chance to hear it playing in my system. Even then, it will be impossible for me to compare it to a standard unit to see if all the upgrades paid off.   It will be more about comparing it to other gear (My local hifi shop wants me to...

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

I started with the Pulse X, then over the following weeks I bit the bullet on the Femto Upgrade, the Internal (op-amp) upgrade, the LPS and the LightSpeed 2G. I couldn't help myself. I hope I made a wise decision.

Geek Pulse: Geek desktop DAC/AMP by Light Harmonics

It's an interesting conversation. You could literally say that about every single part inside of a DAC. Dubious as to whether or not 99.9% of people can hear the difference in a well designed DAC between better power supply components, better diodes, capacitors, resistors, op amps, dac chip...

    bookshelf speakers vs studio monitors?

I have no experience with the ARX speakers, although they appear to have a very low price for what they're offereing.   If you really don't know what you like, I would suggest going to a couple of local hi-fi stores with some of your favorite music (and even bring your amp along with you) and...

    bookshelf speakers vs studio monitors?

Do you already have an amp and preamp or receiver/integrated for these speakers?   If not I'd maybe look into something like these:   http://app.audiogon.com/listings/monitors-mackie-hr624-great-sound-great-condition-2014-02-02-speakers-15044-gibsonia-pa   Otherwise, if you're set on...

    bookshelf speakers vs studio monitors?

There are an awful lot of good options in this price range. I'm using M-Audio BX8D2's with great success. There are apparently some complaints about a buzz/hum problem from the tweeters, but mine are dead quiet until you put your ear within an inch or so of the tweeter (I use good quality RCA to...

    bookshelf speakers vs studio monitors?

I have no hum/buzz from my BX8's at my listening position. I have to get within a couple inches of the tweeter to hear a faint noise. I did have a bit initially, but that went away when I switched to high quality RCA to XLR cables (SignalCable Analog Two).   There are so many good options for...

    bookshelf speakers vs studio monitors?

If this is in response to my above post, I wasn't making a comment on crossover design topologies, I was simply making a comment regarding the value proposition of comparing active monitors in this price range (there are lots of good options to choose from that provide great value) to passive...
