Well engineered EDM could sound bassy even with flat FR, by extending dynamic range. And it would sound much better than EQing bass since only bassy instruments would be pronounced, without making everything else sound muddy (that's why I don't like using bassy headphones with electronic music).

I really doubt that these players will sound any different. I might be wrong, but I think that free audio decoders are already perfect, so samples at PCM level are the same. How about getting any USB DAC, connecting it to laptop or PC and streaming music wirelessly from phone via Bluetooth or WiFi network? I haven't tried it personally, but I see no reason why it couldn't work.

Have you tried lowering the volume on PC (like set it to 1% and make up for it with higher amping)? I'm thinking that you computer might be giving too high voltage to the input of the amp, with some amps it might lead to clipping.
