I suggest making sure the headband is not too tight, as this will obviously put extra force on the pads. Perhaps pinching them from the side could help to "re-fluff" them.

What amp were you using with them? I personally found the bass to be much more powerful on the XB1000's

I guess I chose to opt out of the USA because I sort of thought I had listened to a lot of American music and would find it interesting to hear more "world music". I'm not saying American music is bad in any way whatsoever, but a fair chunk of what you hear tends to be American.

Go with the ATH-M50, the bass is much better, as is everything else in my opinion. Even with the mod the 558 still sound pretty average and much better could be bought for the price range.
