THe A3 has no real line out, so using a headphone amplifier is only possible over the headphone out. The A3 line out is a mixture of audio and video out.

It is a good player you'll hopefully enjoy. It's lack of h264 MP support and its short battery life (compared to the A2) are sadly a dissapointment. But the screen is much better then on the old A2.

If it has the same line-out as the A2, an amp will not improve the sound quality of the A3. I know because I tried. I have no amp at hand at the moment so I cannot try out my A3 in this regard. The only benefit of an amp with the A3 would be the wider selection of headphones you are able to use.

I owned the Cowon A2 and now the A3. Although they sound very good out of the box, I found them no match to my iMod+Tomahawk. Maybe its my UE-10pro which made the difference, I do not know. But if I say they Cowon is no match, I speak of subtle differences. Most changes in a audio setup...

I got mine today and I have to agree with all post before me that this is a very spectacular recording. These are bitter times for vinyl lovers :-) Sadly they are already behind in their release schedule :-(
