The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

I just made my first set of cans the K550...205$ (taxes and ship incl) Looking forward to lush sounds and uninterrupted audio bliss. I know nothing about sound textures and types but will surely enjoy these as an ice breaker into the audiophile world.

Sweet! That was my main concern...now to buy them! 206$ taxes inc. (free shipping!) In Canada that seems like a bargain! lol

Just watched The World's End with the ever witty Simon Pegg.   I just love this guy since I saw him in Shaun of the Dead.   Some funny bits in the movie for sure, kind of an interesting storyline to say the least.   7/10 - maybe fractionally lower

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

How do the K550s sound when it comes to movie watching?   I am 90% sold on these but want to know if they are worth it if used for movies 75% of the time.

The Purge (2013) - interesting idea...but poorly laid out on screen. It would have been nice if the movie was not centered around one damned house but rather touched on different event in the World related to the Annual Purge Event.   5.5/10   --------------     Thor: The Dark World...

Yeah that movie was a disgrace to the game. The games themselves were a playable movie. Ah well...very few games make to the big screen successfully anyways.

I'm overthinking my first official headphones

I have not tried any headphones save for my now defunct HD202s...so I would not even know where to begin with that. I mean I don't think I have a freakishly small head by any means nor does it appear to be overgrown! Haha   I have read that the Beyer cups are among best in terms of comfort...

I'm overthinking my first official headphones

Yeah that would save me the headache if I went through the gauntlet of trying them out. Always a bit hesitant about that, but the folks here seem to live by that and it seems to work well for them. Just a matter of diving into it! Appreciate the suggestion.

I'm overthinking my first official headphones

I've been racking my brain for weeks/months trying to pick out my first set of headphones.   I do some research, like a pair, get to the checkout page...then I second guess myself and look at more reviews and other options.   I have been bouncing roughly 3 models around in my head and still...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

I was actually looking into getting an amp anyways. Just to ensure I get proper output to HPs   The suggestions that MagicMan74 wrote up are all things I am considering as that all works within my budget.   Now to check out the Deals Thread first for DT770s (if I can be so lucky) then check...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

32, 80 or 250 ohm model? Cause I am pretty much set on these at this point. Cel4145: thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

The AKG 550 were actually at top of my list at one point, but based on what I have read they are more so intended for softer sound styles as opposed to Rock/Heavy Metal that I would tend to listen to. So I started to look into other headphones that would encompass all I like. (Movies/Music and...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

One last question...really leaning towards the DT770s at this point.   Magicman74: I saw you post on a number of occasions regarding the bass from the DT770 and how they are not overpowering. Now given that I don't appear to have any store in my general area (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) to try...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

I tried, really tried, to get IEMs to fit in my ear... When I managed to, I got headaches galore.   My preference would be closed as I want to be able to use them while in bed as well. My wife likes to watch her own stuff on her iPad. Sometimes with her Bose Soundlink Mini.   I would be...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

So given that I would be using my iPad to drive the headphones, I would be best served with an amplifier to ensure proper output.   That was something I was considering, albeit depending on present headphones to be purchased. At that price, 65$, it would be worth the look. Would an amplifier...

I could also care less about looks...i don't go to school anymore nor do I ride the bus/subway/walk to work. so they could be beastly in size, it will mainly be used from the comfort of my home. besides, i dont really care what ppl would think about the oversized cans that would be in my head...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

I can't seem to settle on any particular model to be honest. Mainly given my inexperience in the field. Kinda want my first one to kick things off nicely.   Though most folks seem to like the M50s, the DT770, SHR840, even some UE6000....etc   Then there is the drivers, is dynamic better? or...

If you had 250-300$ in your pocket....

Well, I was not considering that actually...but, since I am pretty much a barebone audio guy right now, I am running them off iPad or Pioneer VSX-323-K receiver.   I am lost right now, I don't know what to look for specifically and am quite unfamiliar with audio terms to define what I am...

    Cable type for headphones

I've been looking at a number of threads where folks talk about cable types other than one that came with headphones.   Are the cables that come with headphones inadequate and don't produce enough sound? (I am unfamiliar with this so bear with me) Is it a look thing? Or a means to get longer...

    Question regarding types of headphones
