I've never found T5p.1 to be bass light, to me they sound very slightly v-shaped. They do have a harshness, a glare if you will, from the treble being slightly dirty which can cause fatigue when listening with the volume turned up high.   I compared two copies of T5p.1 to T1.1 a few years ago...

I also have problems with one channel shutting doqn on my K701's and would really appriciate any advice on how to fix it.

I use my Fiio E17 with 32 ohm Beyerdynamic T5p at 12 db gain. There's no more audible distortion than at 6 or 0 db gain, and the cans sound better. More full and defined.
