Do you see a .RECYCLER (or similar) folder when browsing the FiiO drives -select to show hidden files, if needed-? If yes, check if the deleted files are still in there.

It seems to happen only if the music library is initialized. I did remove the hidden db files from the unit storage and had no freeze since.
