Ibasso DX80
I still love my DX80 & last year I had the battery replaced by Extreme Audio. I was referred to them by the vendor on Amazon & apparently they are a distributor for iBasso. Well, I sent my pristine DX80 to Extreme Audio to have the battery replaced for $35. After nearly 2 months & several...- bugeyed

Project Ember Review
I use my Ember 2 with HD 650 & H400i phones. I built an attenuator to use my Nighthawk. Without the attenuator, I was getting too much hum unless I connected the Ember Gnd to an earth gnd. I like the sound of the Ember for most all higher Z phones. The Nighthawks are 25 ohms Z & I haven't...- bugeyed

Project Ember Review
Set to low, w/am. I don't understand why grounding (touching jack gnd) helps with hum. Is it not adequately grounded through the power supply/brick? BTW I am not paying $45 for a 20dB attenuator that I can build myself. Kev- bugeyed

Project Ember Review
I tried my Ember 2 with the AQ Nighthawk headphones (25 Ohms) & was not happy with the level of hum I was hearing. I don't have the preamp outputs connected to anything, but noticed that, if I touch the gnd on the jacks, the hum is sufficiently reduced. Can ground to the Ember or is there...- bugeyed

The Little Dot Mk IV / SE Impressions Thread
Just tried to listen to my LD MKIV SE with the HE-400i & it was a fail. Tracks was Holly Cole Train song. Some serious upright bass & that's where the LD failed. Even a moderate levels the bass was not tight at all. It had a flabby sound on the verge of break up. Un-listenable. Tried the HD650 &...- bugeyed

Yes, it is a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk router. One thing pisses me off is, I never had any issues with the router & now, a year later my free phone support has expired & my only options are "Ask the community" & Paid phone support! Ask the community is a joke with so many jerks responding with...- bugeyed

Thanks for your response nhtran1. I am trying to make my Android tablet Note 8 work, because it can be dedicated to the system. I started over this morning by doing factory reset on SDAC & installing a new Sonica app on the tablet & now I can't get the app to connect. It doesn't ever see the...- bugeyed

Anyone using this unit with a large USB drive attached? If so, how is the Artist, Album, Genre list working for you. I have a drive with 350GB of music on it & if the app closes for some reason, it takes an uncomfortably long time to show any info. (Artist, Album, etc.) I am not sure if the unit...- bugeyed

Indeed, Franco was a special gift to the audio industry & those who enjoy the hobby. I could listen to the Cremonas all day without tiring & adding the Musica to the mix made for a magical combo. Just curious what are you listening to the SDAC through. Headphones or speakers, amps, file types etc? I ask because I don't hear any 'metallic sheen' in the high frequencies" with my setup, but I don't have much of anything to compare it to. I just know when I hear a system that does things...- bugeyed

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
That's a bit misleading. OTL tube amps don't like low impedance loads may be more accurate. NH does very well with a tube amp with SS output stage. I find the Garage1217 EmberII & NH to be a good match. kev- bugeyed

I think I remember Skylar talking about all the work he did to vent the driver symmetrically so that the cone doesn't deform or something like that. Made sense when I read it. kartik7405 your vent hole undermines this effort. kev- bugeyed

Did you try OTL tube amps or hybrid? If the former, the impedance mismatch may have been the reason you didn't like the combo. kev- bugeyed

Hey, Yeah, I liked the BW angled velour pads on NH quite a bit. I described the difference as follows. " When listening to female vocals like Jennifer Warnes, I felt that the bass was masking her voice to the point that I didn't enjoy the presentation. With the addition of the BW angled velour...- bugeyed

Thanks for your detailed assessment. I have used the Brainwavz velour pads on MH & felt that they are an improvement over the hybrid pads. They are thicker & I think that is a big factor in the way they sound. I feel that the NH sound benefits from the larger "room" in several ways. The...- bugeyed
