Mr. Speakers Mad Dog 3.0 - 3.2 Amp Pairing Recommendation/Discussion Thread

I took my mad dogs to audition a Chord Mojo today. It took only a few minutes to make a decision; sound was captivating, so detailed and effortless. Great synergy.

Some kind of epoxy, polyester and vinyl resins are cheaper but nastier.

    Stiff Re-Cables

I haven't used mogami for my own reasons, however silicone is much more flexible than any similar sized plastic it's just a fact, silicone wire is typically much finer stranded too which makes a big difference. There would still be a y spit but you'd be spared what some consider an ugly...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hah I'm still using a Galaxy S3 and I'll not be upgrading till someone else makes a shockproof, crushproof, waterproof case. Why do I need that? Peace of mind and the fact that I ride a motorcycle and could conceivably fall on my phone.

    Stiff Re-Cables

24 gauge silicone would be excellent, from memory a mogami quad extremely popular round here uses 24 or 26gauge so it's fine for sound quality. I see the esw9 has wires going to each cup, what I would do if I had that to work with is use 12 strands of 26gauge and braid them, 6 to each cup...

    Stiff Re-Cables

I suggest getting some silicone wire and braiding your cable, heat shrink isn't required to hold a braid(only helps getting cable made). I used 22-24 gauge, it's fantastic, feels lovely smooth and compliant. I haven't sheathed silicone so I'm not sure how that would go. If you want a fancier...

    Post your computer specs!~

It's a HPdv6 laptop with AMD a6 3410 and 6750m, upgraded to 4gb ram. It's been having heat issues so i'm in the process of some chassis hacks and CPU voltage tweaks. CPU right now seems happy at under a volt with stock clocks, once summer(40C ambient temps) arrive it'll probably need more...

    Braiding long cables

For me it is was practice, rinse repeat rinse repeat. Also might help to try an 8 strand braid, makes 4 seem much easier.

Anyone know how to open the Etymotic HF5?

Not the proper way but rubber mallet/hammer, very gently?

Pocketsize neutral to midscentric on ear with decent isolation under or around $100?

Last one I had was a beyerdynamic dtx300p which sounded good but the isolation wasn't wonderful and the hinge is so fragile I have no desire to buy another. Will use it mostly while commuting but also in quiet environments. My music is pretty broad in scope so it's easier just to say I like...

    Good, Well-Priced Headphones (See Inside)

I have the 6400, I don't remember the cable. I modded the socket to a standard 3.5mm and use a silicone or teflon silver cable with Rean plugs. It was an easy mod

3.5mm jack replacement for bent jack on JVC HA-RX900

The process would involve making a casting/mold of the existing rubber, then once you've soldered on a new plug use the mold to pot the new plug/cable in rubber. Imho way way more effort and expense than any headphone is worth but it could be done. A better option would be to replace the entire...

    3.5mm Cable

If you're not into the cable hype buy a supercheap one off ebay and trim it to fit with a knife, be careful though.

    Good, Well-Priced Headphones (See Inside)

Krk's offerings can be had for under $100 and are great value. Kinda bulky but they fit in a satchel bag easy enough and are pretty light.

    Cable Help Please

If you buy a cheap cable with plastic plugs usually not all the plug is needed. So it'd just be a matter of carefully cutting away the excess material with a knife.

You Know You're an Audiophile When.. Version 2!

This happened yesterday: After getting quite used to headphones with a good soundstage I lay down for a nap with some long unused IEMs. A few mins later I was distracted by how the sound felt like it was coming from inside my head, how wrong it felt and how I wished it would get out. YKYAA when...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

Thanks for the ideas guys. I decided to try using a piece of pretty usb cable I liberated from an old game controller to make the cable I was asking about, it didn't end well(for the third time). So I give up, I'll buy a right angle micro cable and an otg adapter and join the wires at the phone...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

Does anyone know where I can buy a decent 3.5mm jack that is a bit narrower(maybe 2mm diameter less) than a rean/neutrik 231, I'm trying to fit a phone case.   I also need cable to re-make a usb interconnect, I feel like mogami 2893 might work but i'm concerned about the bend I need. Pic of...

Why do people like bass so much?

Most pop songs or music that is popular among people who have little interest in Hi-Fi is generally quite simple/repetitive and played on extremely poor equipment. Lots of bass can make it seem as though there is more going on, disguising the technical failures. It is far easier to make a car...

    Lead-free solder update

I used silver solder(lead free) on a cable I made, using same cheap 25w(?) iron I use for everything else(cleaned the tip first.) My impression was that the lead free being problematic is somewhat exaggeration. I did get a dry joint that looked ok on a socket mod I did but a simple fluxless...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

I'm looking for silicone jacket, or am I missing something? Why would I not find the answer here? Because this type of cable seems to be somewhat specialized to industrial hi temp applications.
