Now I have modded the 3 channel amp from fred amps to run on 18v; its the rechargeable version which had one rechargeable 9 volt nimh 200mah battery. The two 9 volt rechargeable (150mah) are connected in series so it feeds the amp with 18 volts; it works great and sounds really good! Now...

Fred 3 channel amp modded to 18 volts  paired with colorfly c3 sounds great imho! I am not to good at describing sound, however bass and drums have more power behind it and it sounds less congested. I have paired it with Sennheiser hd2-II. I cannot compare with the c&c amp as I don't have it...

Seems it is defective; it will be send back to China tomorrow and I'll receive a replacement asap :). Question to others who have the same amplifier; can you charge and use it at the same time while output stays clean?

It doesn't come with a manual. Also the output signal is not clean when connected to a charger.

Well I decided to go the colorfly c3 route with amp, the x3 is still to expensive to get as early adopter in europe. It costs 200 euro which is 260 usd and that is without shipping. That still is great value compared to other daps, but I am sure prices will go down a bit as supply will go up...

Well if you pick up the cc bh please report back your findings. I am planning to get one too, but that won't happen for another month. Still feeling the hole in my wallet burnt by my new sennheiser headphone and just bought c3 too :).

The pha-1 is not only a dac but also an amp. I can't really help you with what you should pair with the Xperia Z; I do have the same phone... but battery life and having to reopen and close the flaps made me decide to get a dedicated DAP :).

As its only 45 USD I decided to buy the SAP-4s (2013 version in blue). Going to match it up with a Colorfly C3 and HD 25-II :).   I'll report back when I have received the DAP and the amp.

Crap, My pr401 died.. I need to solder and superglue to get them working again. The nova n3 seems best now, read through the whole Nova thread now and sq seems good. [edit] Fiio X3 seems to be around the corner; as I need to save up cash anyhow I might just wait for that.
