What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)
This podcast/radio program is an excellent and entertaining 33 minute overview of temperament. Features an interview with the author of a book on equal temperament and some good audio examples. http://www.betweenthelinernotes.com/episodes-1/2015/9/1/02-the-tuning-wars I enjoy...- azteca x

CiFi Cincinnati Meet @ Cincinnati Library-November 28, 2015
While this was a very small meet, I had a good time. Lots of new gear to listen to and good conversation. Looking forward to the next time. Thanks for putting it together, Darko.- azteca x

Thoughts on a bunch of DACs (and why delta-sigma kinda sucks, just to get you to think about stuff)
Right. I hope to see standard transient measurements sometime soon. The discussion around the Yggdrasil and it's filter reminds me of similar discussions over tons of feedback to get super-low distortion vs. minimal or no feedback and less perfect measurements. For the uninitiated...- azteca x

Keith, I'm with you. I'm a big hi-res fan and while I do think 24/96 is plenty it's up to hardware and software makers to make sure that 192 support is just fine. Though I really hope we don't get even bigger file formats. I don't take that Lavry paper as gospel at all, just offering a...- azteca x

44.1/2=22.05. Add in some wiggle room for filtering and whatnot and you get up to about 20kHz (20,000Hz) pretty reliably. Of course, I'd love to see a test where you demonstrate that you can hear differences ±0.1dB at 20kHz. The highest sample rate I've ever seen (for PCM) is 384kHz, and...- azteca x

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!
Your computer was reading the CD layer. SACDs (which are encoded as DSD) can only be played in authorized SACD players and ripped by early PS3s. So yes, of course the files you got were 16/44.1.- azteca x

I think a lot of people's impressions are it has very impressive specs on paper but ultimately isn't very involving or "musical" in timbre. I haven't heard it myself but I'm sure someone will pipe up.- azteca x

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
If they built a prototype and thought it didn't sound any different do you think they'd waste their time and money on building a super-complex high end product with a small market? Especially as a company who is hugely dependent on word-of-mouth/street cred?- azteca x

Yep. To paraphrase a million different aphorisms: Quality, Options, Price. If you're lucky, you can pick two. All three and it's probably too good to be true.- azteca x

Emotiva is shifting production back to the US, actually. It's only a few products now but they are in transition. Oppo makes excellent products but I see them as a video company. I have a 103 and love it, and it currently serves as my two-channel DAC, but the real story is it plays...- azteca x

Yeah, that is an extremely crowded market where the race-to-the-bottom has already happened, price-wise. With Pro-ject, Music Hall and the like, there isn't much room. ADCs, however, make a ton of sense. Relatively simple (they do one thing), lots of people want to digitize vinyl or cassettes...- azteca x

I work at a university in a staff position and as an adjunct and it's the truth - there are certainly people who teach that can't hack it without the protections of academia, but there are plenty of hotshot private sector folks who couldn't effectively teach people a thing about their...- azteca x

Ahhhhh yeeeeeeah. I'd be so stoked. I've been waiting to see as much progress on ADCs as on DACs. You got the Benchmark ADC1 (which measures great and is probably fine but is fairly old), Lynx Hilo, Antelope etc. I have an old Digidesign interface that ain't bad but I'd love to have...- azteca x
