Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

Hi, I just got my adagio 3s today.   They included a lot of tips.   The nozzle portion of one pack was gray in color while the other small pack was black.   Does anyone know off hand if the difference in color is intended to mark different sound qualities?   I am trying to decide what tips to...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

When the AK is scanning the card, there should be two little icons in the upper left corner.  One for the mounted card and another for the scan process.  You can  use the drop down menu to see what processes are running.  Just slide your finger down from the top of the screen to drag it down.

    The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

If you don't need EQ or gain, you can use the line out.  That is what I do.

    The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

I have been using the line out too b/c my headphone jack is busted.  Line out works but no eq or gain.

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Most people who buy the ie800 probably won't benefit from a lower impedance cable because they are using an audio source that can easily drive an iem using a 16-ohm cable.   Your new cable probably sounds better to  you because you are driving them with your phone, which likely doesn't have...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

I guess my problem is probably related but not the same.  When i turned off my device and rebooted, the card would be unmounted and the device could not find it - or sometimes it would say the card was damaged.  Reformatting solved the problem until i turned off the device and restarted.  The...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

I had the same problem, but seemed to have resolved it by using the the "Settings reset" option in the "Default Settings" menu. This option deletes your settings but keeps your music intact. After reboot, it automatically did a new media scan and found my card and the music on it. No problems...

The Astell and Kern AK240 Impressions Thread

AK240 supports exfat too.   Don't need to format it if it is in exfat.

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

I have tried to make my own replacement extension cable instead of modding the upper cables.   However, I didn't have much luck.  The 2.5mm female sockets i was able to buy were clunky and unreliable.  I also made the mistake of using a cable that was basically too heavy.   I would like to try...

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

My first set was stiff like a coat hanger right out of the box.  Subsequent ones hardened later but I never slept or laid down with them at all.  I usually use them active.   I use full size phones at home and in bed.

A little about the Campfire Audio Lyra

i am looking at this IEM closely.  I prefer dynamics over BA types because I like volume.   My experience with BA phones is that they tend to distort when you drive them hard.  They have a smaller window.where they sound good when it comes to volume.  Since these are supposed to be dynamic...

DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread

I am building a replacement extension cable for my IE800 iems.   I found some cheapo 2.5mm TRS line sockets/jacks to start with, but I am hoping to find something better with a smaller profile.  Most of the sockets floating around seem to be the same ones that I have already, clunky with big...

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

One of the LOGICAL consequences of a short cable is more tension.   This translates into more stress on the cable from just ordinary movements.  That is one of the reasons other companies don't make cables that short.

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Any recommendations for a replacement extension cable?   Mine is dying ... again.   Now that it is post-warranty, I don't want to buy the crappy stock cable: crapped out 4 times already in the last 2 yrs.  It would be good to get a cable extension that is a little longer too.  I think that one...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

My recollection is that someone here or on the other ak240 thread stated that this is a known bug and that iriver is working on it for a future update.  Can someone confirm this?

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

I have had the 800s for over 2 years and have had to replace them about 5 times.   I have had really low serial numbers and my latest pair 20K+ serial number.  I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in sound over the years.  Always the v-shape sound.     If there has really been a...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

That is another reason to buy from an authorized dealer.   I have never had a problem getting my issues with my ak240 resolved.  I just go through my dealer.   They can intercede on your behalf.  In my case, my screen was acting weird.   I talked to my dealer and they contacted iriver for me...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Validity of the warranty depends on whether the dealer is authorized or not.   If you buy something from a dealer on ebay who is not authorized, iRiver would not be legally obligated to honor any warranty.   They could honor it  at their discretion, but there is no guarantee.

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

From sennheiser site: "Manufactured with high-quality materials, such as scratch-resistant ceramic for the housing to ensure longevity."  I have never scratched mine and don't recall anyone here complaining about this.

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Alcohol will strip away moisture..  Usually, things get stiff from getting dried out.  I would imagine using alcohol would not be advisable on a cable that is prone to becoming stiff.

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Keep in mind that the AK runs Android, which is Apple's mobile competitor.  Obviously, they aren't rushing out to fix any incompatibilities between Android and Mac OS either.  Remember they want people to buy Apple products - not Android ones.  While AK can do better with this, you also have...

    Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Yes, the ie800s have limitations, but so do other IEMs.   There will always be trade offs regardless.  It ultimately is about what your preferences are.   Some of the sound limitations for the 800s come from the fact that it uses a single dynamic driver.   You can get wider spectrum coverage...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

I have been looking for a good set of closed cans too.   Have been thinking about the FAD Pandora Hope VI.  Heard good reviews of the combo, but waiting for reviews of the new Audeze closed cans before pulling the trigger.  Was hoping the upcoming Pandora X would be an option, but it seems to...

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

Regarding the battery, it has been asked before but no one seems to have the answer.  Did you happen to write down the battery model number?  That could help us track down a source for a replacement battery.  I could use one myself after a couple of years.

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

AK100mk2 is basically just the ak100 with the high output impedance issue resolved.  It is still basically 1st gen ak product.   DX90 will sound better for most people.  The main reason to get the old AK line is the small form factor.   They are also slicker and more polished in form.  ...
