I've had the mini for a few months now, but this is the first chance I've had to put it in my main system, replacing the GS-X mk2. So far only using it as a preamp with speakers.

I stopped using Pure Music with version 3 - too many bugs (2015). Version 2 was quirky with gapless play, and had an issue with loud static when switching file types (ALAC, FLAC, AIFF) in integer mode, but I managed to get that working stably. Pure Music fixed a number of the version 3 bugs...

No experience using hubs, so can't speak to it. Would suggest you use one usb port for the regen / dac, and connect everything else to the other port via the hub. This would minimize any potential effect of the hub on your music.

For improving the USB signal you could try the UpTone Audio ISO Regen. The iFi products could offer similar improvements, but I don't have experience with those. The ISO Regen is in your price range, has a 30 day money back guarantee, so at most you are out shipping if it doesn't make a...

I don't think it is quite so uncommon as you think. I'm using mine with an Ayre DAC, Classe` amps, and KEF speakers - see my profile if you want more specifics.

2.0.4 was pretty stable as long as I didn't mix file types. I gave up on version 3 after 3.0.3.

I never had troubles with FLAC by themselves, but did have trouble when I mixed file types (FLAC, ALAC, AIFF). I also had to jump through hoops to get gapless playback to work on my system. I finally gave up, switched to Audirvana+, and haven't looked back.
