    Grado Fan Club!

Just out of curiosity, what would you put in best in class for the Hemp? I actually like the stock F but am always up for experimenting.

Thanks for your insight. It's kind of what I was already thinking. I don't really want to focus on every detail, so I'll give this some further consideration. If I end up getting the RS1x out of curiosity, I'll post my thoughts as well. Again, thanks for your thoughts...extremely helpful...

    Grado Fan Club!

Hemp lover here. I used to have an OG RS1 and SR325 as well as currently have a SR225e, which I only listen to on occasion. I think what draws me to the hemp is the extra fun factor from the bit of extra bass and the treble being rolled off ever so slightly (could be the F-pads, but L-pads on...

Yeah it’s not that I disliked it, just wasn’t a $300 improvement. The positives were balanced by the negatives. I would keep if it was $100 for certain kinds of music.

Figured I would transition this here, as I really only care about pairing with the Hemp. There were some good things about the Cobalt, but not enough to keep it and I'll be returning it. I don't think there's going to be a super-portable that can beat the Apple dongle overall here, but I would...

Initial impressions - DF Cobalt vs Apple dongle, feeding Grado Hemp

After spending another solid day with the Cobalt, I think I'm now strongly leaning towards returning it. I now understand what the reviews meant by more clinical and analytical in nature. I can hear slightly more detail and can pick out a few more things, but I the more I listened, I felt like...

Since there's a lot of talk here about the Hemp, I just posted some quick thoughts using the DF Cobalt with it (and only it) in the portable amp section, in the event anyone ever considered pairing the two on the go.

Initial impressions - DF Cobalt vs Apple dongle, feeding Grado Hemp

As perfectly fine as the Apple lightning dongle is for feeding the Hemp, out of curiosity I decided to get the Cobalt to try out. I wanted something that I could easily throw in my headphone case and take to work with me. I have 60 days to return, so it will likely take close to that to make...

Thanks for verifying. I haven't had a Grado since the RS1 and SR325 of olden days, but this reminds me of them for sure. A little more bass and less treble than I remember, but that could also be the pads.

I just got a pair of Hemps delivered today so letting them burn in. I notice there is a decent amount of creaking around the housing when swiveling. I assume this is normal given the material?

    Bowers & Wilkins PX Noise-Cancelling Over-ears

I've been wanting to just go BT vs wired now that the tech has made strides, so after auditioning the QC35 and WH1000XM2 at Best Buy (couldn't try out the PX), based on feedback here and elsewhere I pulled the trigger on the PX figuring I could just return it. Definitely gets the nod over the...

Help me Decide on In-Ear's ~100$

"balanced, not bass heavy, but not missing the bass".   Sounds like you are headed in the right direction considering Ety's (I would use that same phrase to describe my HF3's).  You could probably find the HF5 for $100 (i see a pair from Amazon right now for $97), they are a step above the MC5.

    Analytical iems around 200eur shipped

Another vote for HF ety's...about as analytical as you can get at that price.  I love mine.

Best IEM's to use for Radiohead/Floyd under $200?

I listen to a LOT of Floyd and some Radiohead on my Ety HF3's...sounds great fwiw.

    in praise of etymotic HF5

Add me to those praising this IEM (I just got the HF3, so same thing).  i get a comfortable seal with the large tri-flanges.  The etymotic iphone app is also a nice touch, it has come in handy probably 10 times in the past week.

Etymotic Research HF3 Best Buy $99

Broke down and bought a pair (it looked like nobody had even bought 1 in the past few days, so sad).  These things are just incredible.  I don't remember my ER-6's being this good although it's been years.

Etymotic Research HF3 Best Buy $99

I have to admit I'm tempted to go get them even though I don't "need" them right now.  I figure if I don't like them I could probably turn around and sell for a minimal loss.  I had a ER-6 back in the day and liked.  I imagine these are probably on the same level if not better and would serve as...

Etymotic Research HF3 Best Buy $99

Must be a YMMV.  I never really understand the clearance thing with stores like Target and BB.  Online stuff retails for MSRP and then you go to the store and then, in this case, there were about 12 hf3's just sitting there on clearance.

Etymotic Research HF3 Best Buy $99

For whatever reason, they are on clearance at my local BB for $95 (sitting right next to mc3 for $74).  Are these being discontinued or something?

Another new sennheiser headphone HD238 Precision

Strange, I don't notice any distortion at all (through a Total Bithead). Maybe I'm just not playing them loud enough though.

    HD428: impressions

Picked up a pair of these, as I needed a closed phone option. After letting them burn in for 24 hours, I have to say these are probably priced correctly (at $80 retail). A bit on the bassy side (definitely thumps when used with amp), but I was expecting much worse. Still, good detail and decent...

Another new sennheiser headphone HD238 Precision

Amped impressions: Ipod Touch 2G -> Sendstation Line Out -> Total Bithead There is more bass there compared to straight out of the 2G but still less than the PX100 (which almost gives me too much bass when amped). Mids and highs are still there as well as detail, and a great overall sound...

Another new sennheiser headphone HD238 Precision

Some initial unamped impressions using a Ipod Touch 2G: 1. It takes a little more juice from the Ipod to get the same volume on the HD238 (not a lot more, but it is noticeable, PX 100's were at about 60-65%). For me, volume is at about 75% for the HD238's. 2. The HD238 seems more balanced...

Another new sennheiser headphone HD238 Precision

Really my main reason for burning in is I already have a well burned in PX100 and SR-80, so comparing a brand new pair is probably not the same comparison as opposed to after a few days. I also picked up a HD428 so I'll be posting some thoughts on those too.

Another new sennheiser headphone HD238 Precision

I plan on picking this up today...will post impressions, amped and unamped, after I've let them burn in for a few days.
