Cheap, Comfortable, Durable, Decent-sounding
I'm looking to buy a pair of headphones for someone as a gift. She is very hard on her gear, so it needs to be indestructible and cheap-to-replace. So far, she's tried a wide variety of Streetstyles and Sony in-the-ear phones, but is not currently listening to much. I'd like to introduce her to...- Squalish

Gift-priced cans with isolation
I'm a head-fi member from a ways back looking to get back in on a gift-based budget - my college student wallet is not up to becoming a regular member again. I'm looking for the best set of <$75 closed cans with a decent amount of isolation I can find. Tastes: I had a pair of Beyerdynamic...- Squalish

Back from a long time lurking to request a track ID
Singer has a pretty raspy voice, sounds distinctive, but I'm unable to ID him. I'm rather bad at describing songs by genre, this one could be rock/blues? Identifiable instruments are an acoustic guitar, drums, an acoustic bass, a sax, and a trumpet or three(not entirely sure on that part). This... -
SMD adapters cheap
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...&category=8251 Props to andypairo on diyaudio for the heads-up. It looks almost like DIP spacing for the 8 pin ones, but with an extra space in the middle... perhaps its just a squeezed pic. It's hard to tell exactly if these have pins or not, the...- Squalish

Instrumental guitar
I'm looking for more tracks like: Mason Williams - Classical Gas Cake - Arco Arena(the instrumental track on Comfort Eagle) It's not exactly just instrumental guitar music I'm looking for, it's a certain sound that is present in both of those songs. Any recommendations? -
Would an FAQ wiki be more affective than one written entirely by certain authors?
I've suggested using a Wiki in several FAQ threads, but I've never gotten a response. I've seen Wikis used to create an entire encyclopedia now(www.wikipedia.com), and I think it works best with FAQ-type things. Anyone that wanted to drop their two pence in could, and if it was deemed...- Squalish

Chick from my avatar
I've finally tracked down the origin of the chick in my avatar, for the dozens of people that have requested it. www.trudyweb.com And with that, I hereby retire the avatar, for now. A hotter one will be up in a few minutes.- Squalish

Quad PS - 1/2 Xformers?
Can anyone think of a reason not to hang two gilmore UltraReg power supplies in parallel off of the secondaries of a single dual-primary transformer(capable of 4 amps per secondary, the schematic calls for 1A per secondary)? Any impact on fidelity? I'm thinking that since I would otherwise just...- Squalish

Decent rotary switch for ladder stepped attenuator
Could anyone give me a link to a decent, semi-affordable(<$100 if possible, but if it's above, tell me anyway), 20+ position, 4 pole, enclosed rotary switch? I found an Electroswitch one (690-D9G0423N) at Mouser for $83, but it's open, and I'd rather have it be somewhat dust-resistant. I've...- Squalish

Cheap Silver Interconnects?
I'm looking at this auction and wondering if these "cableplex C1"s would be anywhere near a wire made out of HGA braid and decent-quality plugs. Do you think I should get it? The price to me would be abouut $20, and I think it would probably best Acoustic Research $20 cables, but you never...- Squalish

Gilmore Layout posted for comment
This is based on Sijosae's layout, from staring at Subsonic's board. I plan eventually, when I get enough cash, do do a balanced bridge gilmore based off this. Are there any obvious mistakes?- Squalish

The Definitive example amp for the complex vs simple wars
A lot of people debate whether its better to have more components in the signal path vs less, etcetera etcetera ad nauseum. Is anyone up to actually testing, say, a CMOY or META, versus an exceedingly complex amp, with 630 parts? Complex enough for ya? By Perander.- Squalish

Finished linkwitz board layout - Comments?
I'm practicing my layout skills. I chose the modified Linkwitz crossfeed schematic to practice on, with the aim of making it as small as possible. I plan to build this on protoboard(someone said I'd learn more than if I use tangent's PCB) w/ orange drops and RN60's, so comments on if I did...- Squalish

Solderless breadboard
It's made out of dual-sided sockets, and you're supposed to use it with a ton of jumper cables, alleviating the need for solder. It looks fun to play with, and to test circuits before taking out a soldering iron. Is it?- Squalish

Source for 4 channel Noble(or other brand) pots
My Klipsch Promedia 4.1 v2.400's developed a terrible crackling whenever I change the volume a while back, from dust getting into the pot, and I've been told that my only option is to "upgrade" to the CP-1 preamp, for $50+S/H. I've cracked open the preamp, and the pot appears to be a...- Squalish

JVC HA-D990 - anyone actually listen to them?
I'd like info on the Great Fungus Phones that Purk brought to my attention. Has anyone ordered some from places other than Etronics, and actually listened to them? Or was the damage on the part of JVC and not Etronics? I'm looking at $19 at accessory-ave, and wondering if I should get one for my...- Squalish
