REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

Hey guys, I've finally completed my Listening Tests of my Pink Faun 2.16x streamer. It's here: https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/43629-pink-faun-216/?do=findComment&comment=886404 I write about comparisons with the Trifecta, SonicTransporter i5 and the Antipodes Ex and Cx combo. A...

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

It's one of the top units for sure. The DX was the unit that persuaded me to invest in a all in one server. Their only downside is they don't believe in clocks. But that's about to change I understand.

No I didn't. Would love to. Not easy to compare these top servers actually. I wish they were more accessible.

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

I’ve done a Pink Faun 2.16x creation review in CA that can be found here : https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/30376-a-novel-way-to-massively-improve-the-sq-of-computer-audio-streaming/?do=findComment&comment=862221 I’m still working on my listening impressions which will be in...

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

Ended up with the Pink Faun 2.16 server with 4 OCXO clocks. My setup is listed below in my system. I'm using the PF as the renderer and upsampler. Sending files to it from a SonicTransporter i5. I'm finding a good step up arranging it this way.

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

The Antipodes Dx Gen3 I had in my system for a few weeks. It's an amazing machine - and opened my eyes as to what could be achieved with a good streamer. It was night and day better than my Macbook Pro I was using at that time. Especially when passing through thr SOtM tX-USBultra reclocked with...

Yes the SGM 2015 streamer which uses the Pink Faun clock board is considered one of the top units. There's a rumour that a new version is on the horizon...

REVIEW: Comparison of 5 High End Digital Music Servers - Aurender N10, CAD CAT server, TotalDac d1-Server, Auralic Aries, Audiophile Vortex Box

Check out the Pink Faun streamer. The i2s output is supposed to be pretty good and as an optional OCXO clock if you like. It's high end so not inexpensive. Jord is very helpful.

Some more information you. I was in touch with Adrian a month ago about about his new Kalpa-One streamer. 1. One box solution to avoid additional EMI/RFI pickup from external cabling. 2. True 8-9 Rails True Linear Power Supply 3. Mundorf M-Cap through out (for initial batch) 4. 3 OCXO Module...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

My RWAK+240 sound great balanced out direct from chip without going through the headphone amp as a standalone DAC. From single ended out (through headphone amp), less detail and range.

Bluetooth remote broken after update. Lost range. Works only 1-2m now.

TM-7 is the best earbud I have. takes a long time to break in properly though

Winnie returns it in a non-descriptive package that is secure but understated. Doesn't draw attention.   I'm not using in a desktop headphone system but trying in my home hifi BAT/YBA/Wilson setup.  I find the RWAK240+ balance line-out has much more detail but is also harsher. Need to adjust...

In a nutshell, yes the RWAK240+ LO (balanced in my case) is VERY different from the normal headphone LO.     Vinnie has tech descriptions on his website but subjectively for playback in a high-end home system, RWAK240+ LO makes the player somewhat usable while the normal LO not at all.

The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Not sure what a contact foil is but I wipe the nozzle body (resin) tip until it squeaks (no more oil) and use an earbud cotton tip to wipe gently the inside of the silicone ortofon tip where it grips the resin body. Both the resin and silicone should be ok with alcohol. Or am I wrong? I get a...

I find wiping both surfaces with alcohol improves grip too. It's the grease accumulated over time that makes it slip. :grimacing:

I think otherwise and find the balanced 2.5mm better sounding than the 3.5 SE.   Never have problems with the 2.5mm connector to date. Touch wood...   Through my Ref 1 wired for balance and same IEM with Sieve Sheep convertor cable for SE.

Aren't you curious what it sounds like from the true line out? Actually I've tried and the sound is richer more detailed. The body of sound is thicker. Very impressive sounding initially. Unfortunately it is also a little rougher and there's some occasional static like sound.

Can anyone comment whether the RWAK+ line-out can (or should) be used for IEMs?

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Been playing with my RWAK240+ for a few days now and its amazing how much better it sounds than the stock unit which wasn't bad to be in with. Have a question about the true line-out (in my case balanced). Since you can still control the volume, can one use the new line-out to play to IEMS...

If you don't expect top sound quality, the BT in the AK240 works fine. I had it working in my Audi for a while and it didn't drop the sound even once for months. Then I found a wired connector to the car and now only use BT for remote control.   Also useful to play to BT exercise headsets.

    The Astell & Kern AK240

That may be a good idea to have the True Line Out 2.5mm rather than 3.5mm.   Vinnie says to use the earth from the SE while using the TLO so its probably safer to have 2 different size plugs rather than both 3.5mm.   Also if earth is necessary and to use the TLO, then the square AK plugs and...

Another questions with the RWAK+ mod:   Does the RWA mods improve the sound of the new line-out? If NO, then which will sound better:    1. Original BAL out that benefits from the mods. Or 2. New BAL line-out that doesn't benefit from the mods but bypasses the headphone circuitry?  ...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Hi guys   I decided to RWAK+ my AK240 including the line-out. Opted for the 3.5mm TTRS balanced version line-out with the view to play to my home system.    Can anyone recommend what 3-pin, dual XLR cable to get for this line-out and whether it's still necessary to use the SE ground? I see...
