Cardas A8 IEM
I just picked up a pair from Echo Audio in Portland. The build quality is certainly impressive, and I like the included case. The sound profile leans to the lows, dramatically. This is outside my normal palette, but I'm hoping to adjust to it over the next few days. My primary set ups are...- sheldonkreger

Does anyone know when the next Portland / Oregon meet will be?
It's all good. I know our community is pretty inactive. I haven't even put a meetup together here in more than a year. Thanks for trying, though. :-) -sheldon- sheldonkreger

IC: Meet in the Middle
Clearly a Seattle meet, not that you 'owe' us Portlanders anything :-) Please post in the Portland thread if there is ever a meet 'in the middle'. http://www.head-fi.org/t/723990/does-anyone-know-when-the-next-portland-oregon-meet-will-be -sheldon- sheldonkreger

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
I prefer to use the Clip alone, without the C5D. I bought a C5D because it has both a DAC and and amp. It colors the sound in a way I didn't like, no matter what kind of headphones I used. Running my HF5 with the Clip alone is very neutral and clear, which I prefer. The gain and bass...- sheldonkreger

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
Yes, I agree. I prefer my Clip over using my JDS labs C5D with my HF5. I don't think I'm going to bother with any other portable DAC/amp since the Clip sounds great. -sheldon- sheldonkreger

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
I have a headphone amp which has a knob to change the impedance. 8, 32, 128, and 300. I can say with great certainty that changing impedance does have an undeniable effect. However, I understand that 2 or 3 ohms won't make much a difference. I guess what I'm asking is what is the optimal...- sheldonkreger

I just noticed the Geek Out IEM 100 DAC/Amp combo unit operates at .47 ohm. http://marketplace.lhlabs.com/products/geek-out-iem-100-usb-dac-and-headphone-amplifier Does anybody know the ideal output impedance for the various ER4 models? -sheldon- sheldonkreger

I haven't heard anything good about the tips from Ety, but those look great. I have already had impressions taken, maybe this is my chance to finally use them. Thanks for posting. -sheldon- sheldonkreger

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
I actually had a C5D for about two weeks and couldn't stand it! I found that the gain made everything feel harsh, and the bass boost made everything feel imbalanced. Lots of people like that sound, but not me. Even without the gain and bass boost, the highs seemed crunchy and the overall...- sheldonkreger

What would an amp/dac do for my etymotic hf5
Good info, I may end up getting a separate DAC and amp rather than a combo unit. Not so concerned about portability, just want a smaller setup for my desk at work. I <3 my HF5. -sheldon- sheldonkreger

What would an amp/dac do for my etymotic hf5
For the record, I purchased a JDS Labs C5D to pair with my HF5. I also own a Sansa Clip+. I do not like the sound of the C5D. The gain sounds awful and the bass boost is not useful for my music. It really overshadows the mid-lows that come from acoustic instruments. And the highs did not sound...- sheldonkreger

Reply to review by 'sheldonkreger' on item 'Sennheiser Urbanite XL Black Over-Ear Headphones'
I bought a pair of these because they are closed ear (needed them at work). I pair them with a C5D. All I can say is it makes me wish I could bring my 600 to work. LOL Really though, they are pretty good for everything except jazz. The overall blend is only mediocre and the highs are not...- sheldonkreger

Music Hall 25.2 Head phone Amps. I may buy one. Am I making a mistake???
I use this as a DAC for some self powered JBL monitors (LSR 2300). I use the right / left outputs on the back. Setup sounds pretty good. However, I don't like it much as a headphone amp. The overall blend isn't fantastic. There seems to be a gap in the mid-low range where things don't come...- sheldonkreger
