    The Fiio X5 Thread

It does sound fine and I've verified all the outputs work properly along with DAC mode.  Considering the price I got it for I don't mind to much if it's a refurb.    So far it's a pretty good improvement over my old X1.  I just didn't want to spend $299 for the gen 2 and really wanted 2 sd...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

Thank you!  I did some googling on x5s and couldn't seem to find anything.  It sounded way to good to be a knock off but I still was a little concerned.

    The Fiio X5 Thread

Have there ever been any fake x5 gen 1?  I just got one and it seems to be completely functional and it sounds good but on the bottom right of the back of the DAP it says x5s and there is an s in an oval in the very bottom center, the rest of the back looks like pictures I've seen online. Like I...

Even though these aren't the greatest headphones for orchestra music in the grand scheme of things, this Zelda 25th anniversary album sounds absolutely amazing.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qp-ypYp6rQ   Anyone who was a fan of Zelda needs to check it out now.

Quote: I haven't had any issues using the denon stock pads which have an oval opening.  I think it's more the added depth of the J$ and lawton pads that causes the off sound because fearless who has tried all three found the denons to retain the best sound signature.

Been listening to a lot of MF DOOM recently and I still can't get enough of how much better his stuff sounds compared to the crappy headphones I used to have even just a year ago.  Anyone who's into hiphop and hasn't heard of him have to check him out, one of the best in the underground.    ...

Quote: What I'm finding,  I'm about to order a few extra pairs of the stock pads from lawton so I'll have some extra pads and so my d2k isn't sitting around without em.

Has anyone tried these with the lawton angled pads?  Did the added depth of the pad effect the SQ in a positive or negative way?

Wow, new pads really make these feel like a totally different headphone.  It's been about a day since I've made the swap and I've had them on for the last 3 hours and had them on for about 6 hours last night and honestly found myself nearly forgetting I had headphones on at times.  I've said...

Well I put my d2000 pads on my he400 and I'm really liking the comfort now. Wish I had tried this earlier, looking forward to the j$ pads I'm getting. Gonna have to cannibalize my pleather hifiman pads for the dust guard.

HD598 vs HD600 vs HD 650 in terms of hiphop/rap.

HE-400, it's a little above your limit but it's bass, detail and speed makes hiphop sound awesome.  Hiphop is generally my favorite genre and I can say with no question that they are the best I've heard so far for hiphop including the 650.

    Ultrasone 900, Denon D2k or Ultrasone 650+amp

Quote: If 400-500 is maxing your budget maybe look at the HiFiMan He-400 and an e17 dac/amp.  Will come out around $500 and will dominate the other phones mentioned here.  I've got the d2000's and the HE-400's shame them in most aspects, and I liked the d2000's.

The quest for the ideal headphone!!

Good choice, for the genres you listed those would be my top pick.  I haven't heard 650's for long but while they are good I think the he-400's are a real step up in hip-hop, and EMD and I would say at least equal in most all other aspects aside from comfort.  While it doesn't effect me I could...

Battle Of The Flagships (58 Headphones Compared)

With the he-400 cables I find twisting the cable to the left prior to screwing them on enough to be about equal to the amount it takes to turn to the right to secure it stops it from trying to unscrew.

Is rockbox really that good? I've been considering doing it for my fuze but I've been lazy about it.

One $400 or Two $200 headphones?

The HE-400's have shown me it's all about going with a single better pair, I haven't really listened to my D2000's at all since getting these. The only other thing I use often nowadays are my Heir 3 ai's and gr07's for on the go. Hell if you really want some veriety just get a second mid-high...

I've got a very similar setup except with a 2500k at 4.9Ghz. You like the catleap? I've been considering one of those Korean monitors.

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out

HD650 vs HE-400 vs AH-D5000 vs Mad Dogs T50RP REVIEWED!

When I said pretty similar I was more meaning the d2000 and d5000. The he400 while it has some similar characteristics it has enough differences to set it apart and just being a planar means it's going to have a unique sound in comparison.
