The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!
Quote: Where did you get the velour pieces, if you don't mind me asking? Did you notice a difference to the tissue paper, or just purely for durability purposes? I'd really like to change the cable, but I don't have a soldering iron.. a nice Mogami straight cable and I think these...- tigersinacage

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!
Just did the tissue paper mod, along with adding some DT770 earpads and a Fiio E17 amp. WOW. The difference is night and day. Amazing soundstage, I was actually a little surprised. Before, to me they sounded quite similar to the HD25's in that they were a little closed/boxed in. Now, they...- tigersinacage

Just bought my first pair of studio monitors. Is this all I need to hook it up?
Just bought a pair of 'Behringer B2031A Truth 2' monitors: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000MJ7AA2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 I know they're not the best, but really they're just for creating electronic music as a hobby, so didn't feel the need to splash out....yet. Anyway, I...- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Quote: Awesome, thanks. Do you think the Comply T400's would compliment the sound signature? How is the bass on them? I'm still in two minds about these earphones really, do you think there is a better option for a similar price? Maybe in the $250-300 range? Again, I know it's a really...- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Quote: Ah okay, well any info on them would be a great help! I'm kind of disappointed (From that I can see in the pics) that there isn't a skip track button, like there is on the 980i's. Suppose you can't have everything!- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Are we talking about these? Apparently they're already out, or is it a different version you're both referring to? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-Phones-Integrated-Volume-Control/dp/B009ES68P0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350600557&sr=8-1 If those are the ones you're talking about...- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Yeah I was just looking at the IE80's, they sound really good, but stretching my budget to the max! Realistically looking for something on the lower end of £200, i.e £150-200. Recently sent back some Bowers & Wilkins C5's, absolutely loved the bass on them, but couldn't get on with the...- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Quote: Thanks for the reply. I'm after a pair of in ears that have minimal sound leak, and a really comfortable fit. (Although, I have a set of Comply T-400's, so the comfort of the earbuds isn't too important) As for the sound, I like a nice strong, tight bass, good mids, and the...- tigersinacage

Are the Sennheiser CX980's worth it?
Had my eye on these for the last few days, and seem to be a good choice for the £100-200 range. Does anyone have an opinion on these? I know it's a very subjective question, but is there anything better for the price? Thanks in advance!- tigersinacage

Earphones for around £150/$240?
Looking for a pair of in ears around the £150-ish mark, good bass, minimal sound leak, comfortable fit. I've narrowed it down to these two, Sennheiser CX980 Bowers & Wilkins C5 Anyone have an opinion on them? I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser's, but the B&W have got...- tigersinacage

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought
Just ended up sending back an HRT Music Streamer II. Everything about the E17 beats it, I found the HRT harsh in comparison. The E17 is so much warmer, plus when you add in the fact that it's really portable, plus an amp.. it's a no brainer really. I was surprised though, was expecting for...- tigersinacage

Having some issues with the HRT Music Streamer II... Everything is muted?
Just took delivery of an HRT Music Streamer II, plugged it using RCA to my Little Dot MK3, then hooked up a USB cable to my Macbook. It recognises it, but everything is muted? I can't even adjust the volume. Have tried both USB ports too, and still the same result. Here's a pic of...- tigersinacage

Review of the Little-Dot MKIII Tube Headphone Amp/Pre-Amp
Quote: Thanks for the reply. I've found Gain 5 sounds the best with my DT880's, although the volume has to be up pretty high on the Little Dot. I've heard quite a bit about the HRT, might have to give it a go. I will only be using it for USB, as it's just for my Macbook. I just find...- tigersinacage

Review of the Little-Dot MKIII Tube Headphone Amp/Pre-Amp
Quick question - I'm using an E17 with the Little Dot MK3 at the moment, and it's pretty good as a DAC. Would I see a noticeable difference if I switched to a standalone DAC? Any recommendations? I'll be using Beyer DT880's with em. (250ohm)- tigersinacage

Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling
Thanks for the info, pretty interesting stuff. Don't have SDA written on them anywhere, so I'm pretty certain they're Mullards. Although, I keep reading conflicting views on which model are military and which are civilian. MULLARD made a military version of the M8100 for the British...- tigersinacage

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
Quote: Just got an answer in the Little Dot MK3 thread. Apparently David has mentioned that mixing tubes can be done, but as you say, there may be some channel imbalance. I actually found that the CV4010 + M8100 combo worked really nicely together, the CV4010's are just a little...- tigersinacage

Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling
Quote: Interesting, thanks! Before I knew any of this, I actually tried out the CV4010 + M8100 combo, and to me, they blended perfectly. The CV4010's are just that little bit darker, and they seemed to work really nicely together. Definitely didn't hear any channel imbalance. Looks...- tigersinacage

Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling
Quote: Gotcha. Thanks for the reply Been playing around trying all the tubes out tonight, and it seems that the CV4010's are coming out on top for me. The Voshkod's are just a little too bright for the headphones I'm using (DT880's) Same with the M8100's, they also seem a little...- tigersinacage

Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling
Just picked up a Little Dot MK3 with a pair of Mullard M8100's and a pair of CV4010's. Just wondering, can I use the M8100 and the CV4010's together, or do I have to always have the same driver tube? i.e - M8100 + M8100 or CV4010 + CV4010. Would it damage the amp if I did a M8100 +...- tigersinacage

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought
Just got the Little Dot MK3. Using the E17 as a DAC (Set to lo-pass) and it sounds amazing. It's crazy what a difference in sound there is. This is what I wanted my DT880's to sound like! Thanks again for all the advice I gathered from this thread. Much appreciated.- tigersinacage
