    Need some comfortable IEM

Jumping from 100ish to 200ish you need to consider many other contenders, not to mention you could buy higher in the shure line for a used pair. Here's the most important part though... If you have intentions of upgrading in the future and you spend a lot of time of headfi reading stuff, I'm...

    Need some comfortable IEM

Do you have a music store near you? Like a guitar shop? They will likely carry the shures and you can try them for yourself.

    Need some comfortable IEM

Phonak PFE 1xx Not really bulky & don't protrude I use junk IEMs at the gym because I don't want to sweat on or break my stuff No matter how much sound is leaked no ones cares in a gym. Weights are 10000x louder than your iem (which has a seal in your ear).

    Need some comfortable IEM

I personally would go for gr07 unless you needed the isolation of shure. Pfe is out of the question. The MDR-1R was wayyyy too bassy for me and the phonaks didnt have enough bass impact to my ears.

    Best closed/isolation cans under $50

I own the MDR-V6 and have compared them to my friend's koss Pro DJ100s over an amped setup. They would both fit the bill sound wise. Isolation is so-so in either case..not that great. If you are looking for that "I'm in my own world" feeling, I would lean more towards a pair of IEMs that loop...

    Sturdy phones for commuting $100-200

I really liked the gr07 and received mine after the yams. I thought they were a much better value, even having paid 50$ more for them than the yamahas. Disregarding price, i thought the build just on another level and personally the sound was out of this world. I had to sell mine due to an...

    Sturdy phones for commuting $100-200

The cable on the gr07mkii is amazing and the jack is very strong. 130$ is the cheapest you will find ATM I believe. Alternatively vsonic came out with the vsd1 that looks to have similar design but I haven't tried them myself. They are much cheaper though. Only thing I would be wary of is the...

    Headphone Sightings 2

I'm quite sure most of headfi "wasted" more money than this guy just on cables. And hey, it just goes to show beats is more of a fashion statement. Maybe it's a girl matching the colors to her clothes...we buy loads of those too in different colors :p

    A heart-shattering ultimatum...what would you choose?

Thanks for the write-up. It felt very much like a reddit iama . Sorry if i sounded insensitive. Ive never actually spent time with any young person in my life that was physically handicapped in any way.. It really helps when someone speaks up and explains their own way of living that cannot be...

    Help Buying Entry Level IEMs

Found something that might suit you very well: CKM500i (mic+controls) It's on the bassy side and a fun iem. You should go read up in the appreciation thread. should be found on eBay for around 70$ example...

    Help Buying Entry Level IEMs

Scratch what I said earlier I did not catch everything you said in the first post. I think you would enjoy the eph100 sound but I hesitate to recommend it because it doesn't inspire confidence when it comes to durability. (Thin wires, mine personally cutting out in less than half a year...)...

    A heart-shattering ultimatum...what would you choose?

Wow! I wasn't expecting answers to be this polarized. Personally, assuming the inability to "bypass" the disability by use of prosthetics or implants, I would give up my hearing over my legs. My reasoning is because, if you were to become deaf right now, you would still have the ability to...

Looking for a great balanced IEM for <$100

I think the gr07mkii for 130$ is a great bargain for your music genres. It's well balanced, great quality bass that extends deep and to me had a very natural feel to it great for vocals and instruments. Excellent build quality and the best cord period lol. Was pretty much the rave last year and...

Need a replacement for my Bose IE2.

Instrumental strings + good bass + good at all genres + shallow fit If you are ok with wearing it overear I would look at the gr07 mkii which are like 130$ @ lendmeurears

    A heart-shattering ultimatum...what would you choose?

Now I have two big hobbies and one is music and the other is running. Therefore I appreciate the function of both my legs and ears. However, if you were ever put in a situation where a sadistic maniac made you choose to lose your legs or your hearing, what would you sacrifice and why...

Need a replacement for my Bose IE2.

What kind of music do you listen to and how would you prefer to wear your IEMs, depth of the insertion etc. Too many goodies to decide from at that price point :)

    Help Buying Entry Level IEMs

A friend and headfier dannybai recommended to me recently to look at a few of these ones under 100$: Nuforce 700x Zero audio carbo tenore and basso RE-400 Vsonic VSD1 VSD1S And over 100: Philips Fidelio S1/S2 KEF M200 This is all newer stuff like late 2012 and 2013 and I was on headfi hiatus...

    The discovery thread!

Gonna have to use this criterion for judging future IEMs. "Can I hang myself in these? Yes? Good they should hold up."

    Sony MDR-1R

Do you have a Sony store near you? You can try the 1Rs at the store and see if you like them. I have the MDR-V6 (pretty much same as the MDR-7506) and had a chance to a/b the two. For me the 1Rs were just too bassy. I'll agree with what has been said about comfort though!

Any options in this category with flat response under $100?

Gonna have to put my vote in for the mdr-v6 as well. Very good deal at around 60$. They are comfortable (sit on your ears rather than around, durable and transportable design, and sound great. Alternatively you can try a similarly priced srh-440 at any music store like a guitar store. They will...
