The headband and pads have been exchanged to lambskin types, and the cable has been replaced. They have some marks from wear - see pictures, but they are in fine working condition.

One 556 ohm speaker in a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 600 ohm?

After 4 hours of burn in, they still sounded horrible. So I had to take them apart and change the polarity of the connection. That did the trick. They are back to sounding great again!   Is this on? [taps microphone]   Cue crickets!

One 556 ohm speaker in a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 600 ohm?

Ok, now I was able to do a proper A/B test with another pair of headphones, and they sound horrible after installing the new speaker. The treble is fine, but the bas is not present and the mids sound out of phase.   Anyone knows if Beyer changed the position of the + and - terminals or is it...

One 556 ohm speaker in a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 600 ohm?

Hi One of the speakers in my Beyerdynamic DT770 Edition 600 ohm broke after 4 years of gentle use. Still not sure why that happend. When I soldered the wires of it, one of the terminals fell of, so I don't know if it had a bad connection in that place.   I bought a new replacement driver from...

    DIY Cable Gallery!!

I did a recabling of my Creative Aurvana Live. Not to improve the sound quality, but because I wanted the single cable entry like my DT770 and DT880 have.    The end result:

    Onkyo A-5VL - A game changer

Great review! I'm considering one for my living room. I read somewhere that it consumes 40 W in idle, which might not be a lot, but mine would have to be turned on allways, so consumption is an issue for me. Do you know if the number is correct? Does your get noticeably hot on the chassis?

Why do small headphones sound bad?

Quote: Yeah, I was afraid of something like that. They would have to be a lot better than MX880 for me to be satisfied. In the mean time, I have reverted to the JVC FX700 in ears, because they didn't sell as fast as I had expected and also because I lost the desire to listen to music...

Will an amplifier improve sound quality at low volume?

Quote: Ok, why? I can't use IE's since they isolate the background noise too much.   Is the effect of an amplifier greater on small headphones, since for me there wasn't any with my large ones?

Why do small headphones sound bad?

I'm leaning most to the MX980's, with the G2A's second in line. If they larger Sennheisers sound good, then they are the best of both worlds.   But it is a bit frustrating that I have to buy and sell so many headphones untill I find a solution which works for me. I thought it would be easy...

Will an amplifier improve sound quality at low volume?

That is off course true, but I was worrying the difference might be neglible at low volume?

Why do small headphones sound bad?

Quote:   Hmm. I guess I should ask my boss first if the size is acceptable. Nice reviews. But maybe they are too cheap for what I'm looking for? In my experience things cost as much as they can, so maybe they are no match for the MX980, which supposedly are on par with the top model...

Will an amplifier improve sound quality at low volume?

Hi I have a pair of Sennheiser MX880 which I use at work. I do find the sound quality somewhat lacking, compared to my Beyer DT880's, so I was considering upgrading to a pair of MX980 (thread about that here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/614512/why-do-small-headphones-sound-bad#post_8469241)  ...

Why do small headphones sound bad?

I'm also looking at the MX980. Apparently they are a substantial upgrade to the MX880, and I do find the MX880 to be quite comfortable, so the MX980 should probably be OK, even though they are bigger.   Would an external amplifier improve sound quality at low volumes?

Why do small headphones sound bad?

I'm reading a review of the Yuin OK1 right now, where they are compared favorably to my Beyers: http://www.head-fi.org/f/7/dedicated-source-components   They do seem like a good replacement. Does anybody know how much of an improvement they would be over my MX880?

Why do small headphones sound bad?

Quote:   Ok. I never really gave the JVC's a fair chance, since I concluded after 5 mins. that they were just to isolating. Maybe in-ears can be just as good as on-ears. But I choose the JVC's based on "Jokers" review of 242 in ears, and they were some of the least isolating in-ears...

Why do small headphones sound bad?

But are they more open than the JVC FX700 which I have tried? They should be the most open in-ears on the marked, but they still isolated way too much for my use

Why do small headphones sound bad?

Bonus info: I use VLC media player, and use the build in equalizer at the "headphone" setting (=hameg) just to get an acceptable sound.

Why do small headphones sound bad?

Hi I work in an open office environment, and use my headphones several hours per day. A year ago, I bought a pair of Beyer Dynamics DT770 600 ohm which I used for some time and was really happy about. But I couldn't hear the phone ringing or what my colleagues were talking about even though I...
