    HD600 vs. HD650's

People certainly have very different opinions of these headphones. I also happen to own both the HD600 & HD650 atm and I actually find the HD650 to be more 'correct' especially with classical and live music, no contest. The strange thing is my HD650 while darker actually sounds slightly crispier...

    CK2III....Thoughts?

I've been listening to my CK2III for over a week now and I absolutely love it with my Senns! The sound is quite 'neutral' and very detailed and good punch. The bass is in no way light but very tight and detailed. I actually think it outperforms my PPAv2 no matter what op-amp I use although I've...

    The coveted OPA637 in Pimeta...

I like the OPA637 a lot and has been one of my favorite opamps for a while now. I recently tried some AD825s and while they are very nice in their own way, I still like the OPA637 better and think it sounds more life-like. And note that I'm using HD650s and HD600s! My favorite opamp right now...

    Hifi2000 Cases

Well, I have a Galaxy case 4mm x 12.4mm x 17mm and they seem to be internal measurments, BUT the width (12.4mm) is actually more like 10.5mm. The side walls have some kind of slots in them that might let you use 12.4mm if you're lucky but I wouldn't count on it. The slots go deep and wouldn't...

A simple diy balanced headphone buffer

I had completely forgotten about this amp until today. I never finished and cased it up because of noise floor problems and the lack of a balanced pot. Today however I decided to redo the buffer using Toshiba 2sc4793 transistors instead of the bd139s. That was quick and easy and I hooked it up...

    Beyerdynamic DT990 or Sennheiser HD-650?

I owned both for a while and at first I liked the 990 a lot, probably because of the contrast it made to the 650, but I soon noticed that quite often the 990 just sounded funky and strange and lacked a lot of the fullness, richness and organic touch of the 650s. That, combined with the peaky...

Do the OPA627 change sound to the britter

No the opa627/637 does not get brighter in time in my experience. The opa627 sounds smooth and detailed with excellent bass and the opa637 is even better. Imo the opa637 has the least flaws in the sound of all op-amps I've heard and is pretty close to an all-discrete design. To say that the...

    The "mod your Zhalou" Thread

It seems that my Zhaolu is very jitter sensitive or something because when I feed it from my computer through either my SBlive 24-bit or my 0404 I get a lot of static especially when the music/sound is quiet or no sound at all. Also, when it happens the Zhaolu dac boards led is blinking rapidly...

The Zapfilter mkII has a dc-servo. I don't have any coupling caps and get less than 1mV offset with both the CS4398 and the AD1852 and I don't think anyone else on this board has had any dc offset problems either.

Oritek vs Zap Filter modded Zhaolu 2.5 shoot out

From what I've read, I believe the stock zhaolu digital rca cable is far too short. Yes, that 's right, it should be at least 1m and preferably 2m. The reasoning is that if the spdif driver at the transport end isn't good/fast enough, the signal will bounce back and forth along the cable and...
