Promising new portable headphone amp (Mobile Icon) from NuForce

Any experience with the Icon Mobile and DT880s? It would go on a laptop and, whenever I get one, some sort of small MP3 thingy. I was going to get a Total Bithead, but it looks like things have changed in the amp manufacturers market since I last looked ? years ago.

what was the flavor of the month when you joined head-fi?

It seems to me that it was all about entry level Grados (Neruda?), HD600s and whether the blue or red cables were better, Earmax or Earmax Pro and with which tubes, Tool and Radiohead post of the hour, "Is COBY any good?" Lamenting the passing of each Panasonic portable CD player, the Radio...

The 1980'S - worst decade for music?

Thanks - but I can't stick around long - I might start getting bad ideas again. I've been perfectly happpy with my MX400s for years now, oh yes I am, or so I keep telling myself......

The 1980'S - worst decade for music?

I spent much of the '70's listening to Walter Carlos and other Moog wizards. What followed in the '80's was, for me, just a development of what I'd already heard.

Your favorite "I can't believe you like that crap" movie

If you like the cannonball movies, you'll LOVE "Gumball Rally". It came out first, and it is much better. I'm surprised a remake of it, a la "Gone in 60 Seconds", hasn't come out. If you really want to see a real Cobra and Ferarri Daytona Spyder battling it out in an LA concrete canyon, check...

Your favorite "I can't believe you like that crap" movie

Condorman. (mmmmm, Barbara Carrera.....) Red Dawn. Killer, um, soundtrack - if you can find it. Tron. Good sondtrack, by Wendy Carlos. The "light bikes"..... High Risk. Not the Martial arts movie, but the one about a bunch of Joe Sixpacks who decide to get rich quick by going to South...

    Best Alan Parsons Project Album?

Another funny pop culture reference was on the "Simpsons", the source of everything good and wise. Homer was trying to describe rock history to his kids. While doing so, he brought up Jefferson Airplane, "Whch then became Jefferson Starship, which then became the Alan Parsons Project, which...

    Best Alan Parsons Project Album?

Actually, I've been wondering about that one, "On Air" and "Time". Someday...... I suppose I should have asked which version of "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" is preferred. I was a bit shocked by Orson's naration when the CD started, but I got over it. For what it's worth, the...

    Test tones CD?

http://audioprecision.com They have a killer list of test CDs, and test gear to drool over. Their book, "Audio Measurement Handbook", is worth the read for those who need/want to learn something about the subject. My copy is dated 1993, so it could use a good updating. The fundamentals are...

Do you have bad music listening days?

YES!!! Those days seem to be caused by barometric pressure swings and polution related allergies. There are also days when it seems my hearing is much better than normal. Last fall, a bad combination of the top 2 things (made worse by the wildfires in the area) had me thinking I was...

    TommyAtkins' Haircut Mini-Review

I thought I was the only one who figured out the hair thing and headphones. When I had my Koss Pro-4's, I was a GI, so my hair was always short. MUCH later, when I was both a civilian and had my HD497's, I noticed that it took about 1/2 hour for them to sound "right". Somebody once claimed...

I am going to the dark side: tape decks

Teac had a tape/cd unit. I've seen it new at a few sites, but I can't remember where (sorry 'bout that). The local used stuff where I got my Denon had one for fairly cheap. but it's gone. Which means you might find one on Ebay cheap as well. Or look into DCC - Digital Compact Cassette. It...

What is the diameter of a quarter?

If you are interested in punching clean holes through foam rubber materials, try a scrap piece of electrical conduit tubing. File or grind the OD sharp, put the part about to become hole-y between the tube and a block of wood, and give the tube a good whacking. Ever see those CD player belts...

What is the diameter of a quarter?

According to my calipers, 4 different ones measured .950''+- .001'', with about .001" out of round. Or 24.13mm. I hope that helps!!

    Car for tall person (me)

One of my older brothers is 6'4'', and he drove a Scirocco for ages - it was one of the few that fit him. Some of the newer VW offerings may be worth the look. My Triumph GT-6 fit me just fine, but he could barely squeeze himself inside of that car. But I'm almost a foot shorter than he is...

yow! i just got a bad electrical shock :/

One of my older brothers got shocked badly while teaching a class. He felt ok - for a few hours. Then things started going downhill with his equilibrium, short term memory, vision, etc. Sort of like the effects of, well, I don't remember. Anyway, it did shake him up a bit, but a few days...

    Jude Cole - anyone?

Just wondering if there are any other fans of his music. I have #2- "A View from 3rd Street", #4-"I Don't Know Why I Act This Way", and #3-"Start The Car" is on the way here. I've enjoyed listening to his second album for years. It is one of the few I can listen to without skipping tracks...

What d those DIDX numbers mean on older CDs?

A lot of my earlier release CDs have a 4 digit number with a DIDX prefix. They are on my Alan Parsons Project CDs (Arista), Ultravox (Chrysalis), and even a Thomas Dolby one (Capital), and other bands under those same labels. Speaking of such stuff, my German Cds have a circle/oval logo on...

    got pitch?

Now that I think about it, my OLD Superscope 3 head tape recorder had a very wide range speed/pitch control as well, but it had a center detent. It was useful for annoying people, something which doesn't come naturally
