Perhaps, but personally I don't know where to buy beats except at big box retailers like bestbuy, walmart, target, etc. Most of the people (hell, even the workers) at these stores haven't done research and know little to nothing about how to truly gauge a product's true performance and...

I'm in the same boat as many of you, I don't really like the beats look or design myself. I much prefer the current, classic, design. Of course though, I'm willing to bet that >90% of skullcandy or beats purchasers don't frequent this forum (probably out of fear of ridicule, but who knows?)...

From a business and product management perspective, this makes perfect sense.   It's impossible to ignore the success of beats, with their marketing, even taking into account their appearance/price/likely high margins. In a lesser vein, look at skullcandy, who has managed to capture a fair...

so if I'm reading this correctly:   ONLY the D7100 artisan will have mahogany cups?   D5ks are going to be in high demand if the only way to get wood cups on the new line is to shell out $1k+ USD.

if this is your first audiophile headphone, find them on sale (around $120). good isolation, great build quality, but be prepared for a million other suggestions for cans at that price range.

I'm amazed sometimes by the number of people that buy tech and don't read the manual, or at least the features list on the box.

you'll likely be very happy with the headphones right out of the computer 3.5mm jack. without a new soundcard.   my recommendation is that if you're going that route, going with a dac/amp gives you more... versatility. same concept, different form factor.

if it's not too late, return the soundcard or cancel the order, and get a usb dac/amp instead.

just fyi, I checked and my package of d5k is reported as weighing 2.5lbs... good luck with pandora's box

d2k are a bit fragile for travel, one drop and that cup is coming off the band. while many may think it's overprice, the ath-m50 can be had online for ~$130, are built rugged, and will run fine without an amp from a portable player.
