Some Cocobolo... the RS1x does slowly grow on me I have to say.

Really sorry to hear of your bad luck @AeroX Just recently I've seen a repaired RS-1 button pop up on a German second hand platform, which received RS2x drivers. Not bad I'm sure, but not the original sound. So starting to look for another pair with one defective driver might be the best...

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Anniversary model

That was the USP of their first new generation drivers deployed in the T1, nowadays it seems to stand just for that specific architecture, now used in the T1/T5 as well as the DT1770/DT1990 and the TOTL in-ears. That technical feature seems to apply at least to their even newer stellar.45...

Playing around with various pads is quite fun, so far I like the Nyczaj pads best and consider getting a pair for my RS-1 button. They change the frequency response the least from the three sets I tried, just extending bass a bit and maybe reducing treble a bit. Definitely more comfortable than...

    Chord Hugo

Actually it’s not just you: I also always preferred the Hugo 1… and mine still works just fine as well, so I don’t think the battery is too much of a problem. I’ve also read it’s rather easy to change.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Anniversary model

I don’t think so, otherwise they would have called them that. Beyer seems quite proud of those new drivers, they explained the construction in detail on the pages of the DT700 Edit: I did not find the article I remembered, but there is a video about that new driver available (German)...

OK, I fumbled around with my RS-1 button already... Again I liked the Nyczaj pads best. Surprisingly deep reaching bass, very balanced overall. I think I'll get a set for this one. The Dekoni Fenetrated pads did not work that well with the RS-1 button though: a bit thick bass and a slight glare...

This being a quiet weekend with weather rather typical for April (right now its 8° Celsius, raining with some wind thrown in for good) I played around with some pads I have on load: Nyczaj and two different variants from Dekoni: Since I don't have two identical Grados available I can't give...

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Anniversary model

Mine just arrived... the cups look quite similar to the normal DT770, the headband should fit the other models as well. Feels about the same on the head, maybe a bit less clamping force. Still very lightweight. Sound reminds me of my old DT770/80, nice bass that reaches deep (from memory I'd say...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

In other news I've borrowed a Shanling EC Mini, a portable CD player (note: not for mobile use) that includes a nice headphone amp as well. Pairs well with the Composer as a very minimal setup that still sounds good.

The Liric2 sure looks nice (those wood panels are much more attractive than the first version, although that one was not unattractive). It also feels good in hand, nicely made (screws, not glue etc.). Sonically it did not impress me much though, a bit much midbass for my taste, and somehow I...

I think he had that RS1x since they came out, but I don't know if it got much headtime: there seem to be not that many people into higher Grado models here in Austria (he tells me that the Prestige models sell OK though). For me I think its more a matter of taste, I liked the RS2x better from...

I just declined a very good offer for an HP-1000... would have been a really nice addition, but somehow it just didn't really call me. Most probably I wont ever come across another one, so this decision feels quite final ;-) In other news I had an RS1x at home for a week, courtesy of my...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

While I’ve not heard the combination so far, I can imagine that the slightly warmer sound of most Violectric amps would pair well with the Composer. Looking forward to try that out myself at High End in Munich next month

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

We discussed that some time ago, but to me the subbass presentation of a dynamic driver is in most cases preferable to planar bass. Only exception for me are Dan Clark’s planar drivers, all others are not to my taste. And chasing extra low distortion in very low bass doesn’t help much since the...

THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

Absolutely. I forgot to mention that my primary choice of music for headphones is electronic, therefore the bias for really low bass. And yes, it’s not the FR that counts but the result. 250-500 I’d sum up under lower mids, where I can live with some warmth. What I need to avoid is elevation...
