Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x
Quote: Service is carried out by Audio Technica Europe (the exclusive European distributor...), replies are a bit slow, I think the UK service "team" is 1 or 2 guys. http://eu.audio-technica.com/en/support/service/ http://eu.audio-technica.com/en/contact/ Edit, Seems I was...- mstark

The Audio Technica W3000ANV Thread
Quote: I've used my ESW10's outside in rain a number of times, after around 4 years it seems like moisture has seeped through from the inside of the cup, and they have recently developed a staining effect underneath the lacquer that I can't get rid of. I've tried to read up on what the...- mstark

Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x
^ At $855 it's likely cheaper to import them directly from Japan anyway for like $600-700. Tenso + Amazon JP, I'm considering doing that.- mstark

How much money are the ATH-AD2000's in Japan?
AD2000x is relatively new, released in October last year, they are not discontinued. Good place to get them new is Amazon Japan JPY55,000...- mstark

Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x
I listen to quite a lot of Japanese female vocals, and a lot of female vocals in general, and I find Audio-Technica in general is much better at this than Sennheiser 598 (but then, I don't like the 598 period. IMO, it sounds like a cheap headphone). I've not heard the ad900x, but I know...- mstark

Noob Help, Amp vs. Headphone Amp?
Thanks all! So, technically, there's no real difference between them. I thought stereo amps use a resistor for their headphone port? Because the signal they generate is too powerful to output directly to headphones, or something like that. Maybe that doesn't really affect sound quality...- mstark

Noob Help, Amp vs. Headphone Amp?
First question, why would I want to get a headphone amp rather than a regular amp, assuming they both have headphone outputs? Second question, I own a TEAC A-H01 DAC/amp combo, it has a headphone output, would this unit be likely to power something like the ATH-AD2000x well? Or would a...- mstark

What do great mids sound like?
@davidsh, I'm not the OP, I just entered the thread to look for understanding :P Quote: I'm likely biased towards them since they were my first, decently high-end, pair of headphones. They're just so much better than anything I'd ever used (mostly ~£100 cans). Now I've used them...- mstark

What do great mids sound like?
Thanks Chris :) Quote: I've only had the chance to listen to HD598's, but they literally sound like a swamp to me after getting so used to the ESW10's (owned since launch), though it's probably not fair to compare a £150 can to a £500 one. If the HD598 compares to the HD650 like the ES7...- mstark

Best way to get Audeze LCD-2s in the UK?

What do great mids sound like?
I'm quite new to all this, but this is my interpretation... am I right in that: treble = high (frequency) range mid-range = mid (frequency) range bass = low (frequency) range Bass heavy cans would emphasise the low range. This appeals to "bass heads", since they don't mind the...- mstark

Hearing Loss
You should be OK at 75% with most cans, depending on how long you listen for. Thing is, hearing damage is not only caused by loud volumes, but also by extended listening. For example, if 100% would damage your hearing in 10min, 75% may start getting dangerous after 2 hours... you...- mstark

Hearing Loss
I've got permanent tinnitus since age 12 (I'm now 25) from listening too loud to the (infamously loud) sony Walkman cassette player, so yes, hearing damage is certainly something to take very seriously. If you tend to max out your volume, unless you are very lucky, you may very well have...- mstark

Quote: I know I certainly am! I've just been eyeing up the AD900/AD2000 for potential home listening headphones (to complement the portable ESW10's). Just found out about the new editions, and am strongly considering importing the AD2000x from Japan! Reviews/comparisons please :D- mstark

Looking for Desktop Amplifier
wrathzombie, did you get an amp & headphones in the end? I own a TEAC A-H01 to drive my desk speakers. I'm looking to buy a pair of HD650's, DT880's (600ohm), or HE-400, but I'm wondering if the amp will be able to drive them well, seeing as it's not a dedicated headphone amp. Anyone...- mstark
