List of High-End Analog Source Owners on Head-Fi Continued

Hey all...haven't been here in a LOOOOONG time. Honestly don't think i'm gonna keep this thread updated anymore. Life has brought on many changes and new interests. While I certainly still love music...I'm simply burned out on the whole" High End" audio hobby as a whole. If someone would like to...

    The baseline high-*END* headphones?

IMO the K340. If careful attention is given to building the rig around them to meet their needs , they can hang pretty well. I'm not going to tell you they beat the pants off the O2s or K1000 etc (they simply don't) They do not excel in any single area, but it doesn't stop them from being an...

Should I dump my old Thorens table?

Absolutely yes it's worth keeping. The Thorens TD 318 can still very much hang with todays midrange (price wise) tables. The suggestion to upgrade to a new cartridge is good advice. If you want, feel free to PM me for suggestions on some simple mods etc, to really get it singing.

My Sota Comet's Wobbly Platter... Help!

Loooong time Comet owner here. First thing I would do is pull the top platter off and then the lower sub platter off and make ABSOLUTLEY SURE that the bearing well is completely free of any debris. Also check to see if you can wobble the sub platter around. You should NOT be able to. And...

Favorite headphones or headphones/amp for Violin/Cello?

The STAX SR-007 (mk1) is still the clear winner in this area for me...bar none. They just get it right.

    Stax Amp Question

The lesser STAX amps cannot drive the O2s worth a damn. The slightly better 313 fails to drive them....period. I'm guessing the person that heard the lesser amp/O2 combo and liked it....has probably never heard them from anything better. Honestly, I would rather listen to the Lambda Pros or...

Analogbox....I have been following your journey with the K1000 and thought I would offer a few suggestions. I saw a suggestion earlier in the thread regarding running your Aleph without a preamp. NOT A GOOD IDEA as the Alephs have low voltage gain and as such do VERY poorly running direct...

OT - some bass distortion on Kamakiriad?

Yes there is. It is easily heard and a bit bothersome, but it is a GREAT song and doesn't stop me from enjoying every minute of it.

Suggestions for correcting a slight K-1000 'rattle'

I had a small case of rattle in my right driver when I received mine and as desribed below it was some very tiny hairs stuck in the "blue goop". I would check for that under stong light and a magnifying glass. Here is a great post from Fitz taken from a different K1000 thread. Quote...

    McAllister EA-8

Personally..... I have never understood Peters desire to use the horizontal sweep tubes.(the 6EM7,13EM7,12DQ6) While they are not a bad sounding tube, they are really not that well suited for use in an E-stat amp to begin with. IMO

I have a loooong story much like yours in regards to an EA-4.(still not working right) Dealing with Peter is VERY nerve racking and honestly I would stay far away from his stuff.(very far) The build quality is beyond terrible. I am very glad you figured out the problem, but would really love...
