    DC Area Meet - December 15th, 2019

I will try to make it up for at least part of the day. I have some older Stax stuff I will bring with me: Lambda NB, SR-5, SR-30, and a SRM-313 power them all. I might bring one of my Stax transformers as well if I feel like bringing one of my speaker amps.

    VA / MD / DC meet - Saturday, January 18, 2014

The only Stax I have now are my Lambdas and I could never bring myself to sell them. They were way too much of pain for a broke guy like me to get a hold of.

    Winston-Salem / Triad meet (April 20th, 2013)

Quote:   I am bringing my Lambdas and my Gammas, but the only thing I have to drive them is my SRD-6/sb energizer box powered by my NAD 3155. I have yet to be able to afford a dedicated electrostatic amp. And it is sinful to have had your Gammas that long and to have never hooked them up...

    SRX mk2 question

I have a Stax SR-Gamma. It is basically a cheaper and newer version of the SR-X series since they both share the same basic driver design. I can't speak for the SR-X since I have never personally heard them, but my Gammas have been my favorite headphones for years now. They are a little bass...

Stax SR-84: Asking price $53,50. Worth it?

For $50 it is not a terrible deal. I bought a pair of the sr-40's, they are much older Stax electrets. I was never really that impressed with them. I am sure that the SR-80's sound better than my old SR-40's ,but probably not enough to make them listenable on a regular basis. And even if you...

Are my senn hd280 supposed to sound this limited?

Welcome to Head-fi!   First off, specs on headphones are just about meaningless.   I am not really sure I would call the hd280's limited, they do have pretty good extension on either side, but the bass is pretty rolled off down low, and they really don't have any impact to speak of...

What pair of headphones do you regret selling the most?

Alessandro MS-1   It was my daily use/portable cans for almost a year and a half. Not only did they sound awesome, but they were very comfortable since they weigh almost nothing, but then I bought the MS-2's thinking they would be better, but I was very dissapointed. They really didn't sound...

    STAX SR-Gamma Earspeakers

Coming from the DT770 you will probably think they are bass shy, which they kinda are, but not so much that you really miss the bass. They do not have near the soundstage of the larger or more expensive Staxen, not to say they are lacking in soundstage by any means, but they are very intimate. ...

    Why so many DAPs?

I think whenever I find a really good deal on a DAP, I buy one. I bought the Zune 30 when they went below $100. I bout a Meizu SL when the first started becoming easy to get. And for some reason I just keep aquiring new iPods. I currently have 3 iPods. A 1G, 4G, and a 2G mini. I got them all...

Thinking about getting a Stax SRS-2050 system

If you are interested in getting into Stax, then I say you should go for it. I have the 2050 system and I have been nothing but happy with it. It blew every other dynamic headphone that I ever had out of the water and they are super comfortable as well. I have had a chance to A-B my 2050 to a...

    Noob Stax research

I have both the SR-Gamma, and SR-202. I honestly enjoy the Gammas more. They both are insanley detailed, and they both beat the crap out of almost every dynmaic headphone that I have ever listened to. But I find that the Gammas are just more fun to listen to. What is even funnier is that I...

Moving from HD based player to flash

I have had several HDD players (iRiver H120, Zune 30, iPod 20GB), and I find most often I use my smaller players. I primarily use my 8GB iPod mini. I found that having all of my music with me all the time just got way to distracting. Often it would take me longer to pick out something to listen...

mp3 player 10 yr anniversary - your first??

My first DAP was a iRiver H120 that I bought in early 2005. I really wish I had not sold that thing, it was just so awesome

    Most Comfortable Headphones?

Any of the Stax Lambda headhones. My SR-202's are the only headphones I have owned that I have forgot I was wearing them. They may look big and heavy (they kinda are) but the huge leather pads and the awesome headband spread the pressure out so well.

    Portapros or iGrados?

I currently own the PK2's and the PortaPro's, and I used to own the iGrado's. I bought the PortaPro's first after I sold my MS1's to use as my main portable cans and i loved them until I bought my PK2's Now I find the PortaPro's was too bass heavy and the high end just is not there at all...

Got them! (Entry into Stax Electrostats for <200$ possible?)

I scored a SR-Gamma and a SRD-6/SB on ebay earlier this year for about $150, and I think they sound awesome. They may not have the soundstage of my SR-202's and the Gammas are a bit more fatiguing to listen to, but they still beat out my SR-202's in terms of sheer detail. I think the Gammas...

Help Me Bring My Ipod 3rd Gen Back to Life

And a quick question. when you turn in the iPod with the Hard drive still connected, does the hard drive spin up, or do you hear any noise at all coming from the drive. Whenever there is any problem at all with the HDD it will show the bad folder icon. Corrupt file system, bad HDD, no HDD...

Help Me Bring My Ipod 3rd Gen Back to Life

To test the HDD I bought a 1.8" toshiba HDD enclosure. (Ebay Link) It has a USB connection so that you can plug the HDD directly into your computer. If the computer recognizes the HDD and lets veiw it contents or lets you format the drive then the dirve is still good. If windows does not...

Help Me Bring My Ipod 3rd Gen Back to Life

Sounds to me like the HDD is dead. I have owned several iPods and whenever they did that it was a problem with the hard drive. About the only thing you can do is crack open the iPod and take out the drive and test it in something else, such as another player, or in a USB converter. If the hard...

    UM1 vs PK2 vs ER-6i vs d-JAYS

Welcome to Head-fi and sorry about your wallet! I have only heard the UM1's and the PK2's so that is all I can comment on. Sound quality wise, the PK2 will stomp al over the UM1. I had the UM1 for about 2 months and I just found it very boring. There was not much bass, they were not very...
