Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Well I did it... I'm OCD and couldn't imagine having headphones with white paper towels visible in the grilles, but I just used cskippy's Bounty paper towel modification on my M1060s and I have to admit they absolutely sound even better. If someone finds a nice black fabric that works as well...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Agreed. My question is whether other manufacturers will decrease prices to steer buyers to their brand instead, or whether Monoprice will develop successor models with even better sound quality while still undercutting the big players. Would I buy an LCD-2 for $500? Absolutely. Will I buy one...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Respectfully, Monoprice is not responsible for where buyers live, nor if they elect to purchase internationally. They are willing to exchange a defective product for a new replacement, fulfilling their warranty. Expecting anything over and above that is entitlement. Monoprice primarily does...

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones

Yes. I sent them an e-mail several days ago. No response.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I honestly doubt it. Most Head-Fi users are probably morally opposed to Monoprice for selling quality cables for a few dollars rather than a few thousand. They can't really be quality then, now can they? It's also not a name brand that will impress common people when thrown around in workplace...

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones

It is my understanding that Audeze does not sell them separately at all. Which is dumb, honestly. I want to buy the iSine VR, but I also want the Cipher cable, and their online store won't allow me to give them my money.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

To me, the M1060s are better in pretty much every way.  Obviously being open they have a wider soundstage, but I also think that the mids and treble are better and more detailed than the Oppos.  I wear glasses, and with the Monoliths I still get terrific bass while wearing them, while with...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Yes.  I have the iFi iDSD micro BL, and I couldn't be happier.  I did change the stock M1060 pads to the Audeze vegans, but otherwise no modifications.   I have honestly stopped looking at open circumaural headphones and DAC/amps entirely - both are end-game for me, and I mean that seriously...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

For what it's worth I'm not using the paper towel mod, though I am using the Audeze vegan pads.  Forgive me, but I have a hard time with the idea (aesthetically) of paper towel cutouts being visible in the grills of my headphones.     I can't complain about the sound quality at all, however.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I would say there feels like greater "impact" and vocals are "closer" or more "present". They're great headphones with the original pads as well though. I do perceive a noticeable difference, and I'm not the type of person to believe in perceptible sound quality differences between audio cables.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Wow, those Audeze vegan ear pads are the real deal. I installed a set yesterday and I'm listening now. These are now my favorite headphones. I'm using them with an iFi iDSD micro BL, and I honestly think this is all that I need. I can happily stop here and just enjoy the music.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I found this review to be embarrassingly effusive. Yes, to his credit he does list all of the myriad build-quality concerns, but when he describes the sound he uses terminology like "godlike" and "Stax-like", which is hyperbolic in the extreme. He also throws in the f-bomb so often that it loses...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I have both the HE400i and the M1060. In my opinion, the Hifimans excel in detail and soundstage width, as well as treble and speed. I prefer the M1060s for their bass and complete lack of ear fatigue. The Hifimans are lighter, and to me, more comfortable, due to the narrowness of the Monolith...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

This exact same thing happened to my pair of M1060s two days after they arrived. One of the earcups audibly cracked while I was wearing them. I like them so much and since it doesn't appear to be affecting their structural integrity I plan to just keep them. Aesthetically the appearance of the...

FiiO Mont Blanc/E12 portable headphone amp, 880mW, slim design, full metal case. Bass boost and Cross feed!

Quote: I never said it was the best portable amp, period.  This is what I wrote:   "It is however, definitely the best truly portable amp I now own, and that's compared against the E17 I have, and the E7 and E11 I have owned in the past."    I explicitly qualified that it is the...

FiiO Mont Blanc/E12 portable headphone amp, 880mW, slim design, full metal case. Bass boost and Cross feed!

So I have spent some time listening to the E12. Bottom line: I'm very impressed. I even hooked up my LCD2s to the portable amp, and it manages to drive them to excessive sound levels. The background is completely black - even with the volume knob at 100%. It probably wouldn't be fair to compare...

Extra Value Provision with the Reservation Activity for Mont Blanc/E12

Early first impressions: excellent build quality - it feels extremely solid. The volume knob is absolutely not going to move on its own - even with the amp stuffed in a snug pocket. The knob is very nicely knurled, and the E12 is heavier than I expected; it feels like quality. The red/blue LED...

Sennheiser HD 580 Precisions are awesome!

I've recently been bitten by the audiophile headphone bug, and couldn't stop myself from ordering a pair of Sennheiser HD 580s (for a great price: $149 shipped, new)- they just arrived today. And while I'm very new to all of this, I am aware that they need to be broken in - but they sound...
