Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
I have purchased the Samsung the EVO Plus 256GB microSD card and can confirm it operates without issue on the M2. The idea that Lexar cards sound "slightly better" without offering any data that quantitatively and qualitively describes this claim and making it open to scrutiny is pretty...- curtain

Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
They are currently beta testing a newer version of the M2 firmware v2.5.2 https://www.facebook.com/acousticresearchdigital/posts/1206527589365244 Another review here: http://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/audio-systems/acoustic-research-m2-1315598/review?src=rss&attr=all- curtain

Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
I can too confirm that the M2 is now truly gapless with the V2.5.1.0 firmware. There is an audible "pop" sound that comes along about a second before the track change when playing 2822.4kHz/1bit DSF files. I have not noticed this with 192kHz/24bit FLAC files or with 44.1kHz/16 bit FLAC. ...- curtain

Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
Any release notes on the new M2 firmware? Will it have 200GB card compatibility? Can you go back to the previous firmware after updating? Will it introduce a high gain / low gain setting and if so will the sound change for big cans whilst catering for IEM's? Are there plans for further...- curtain

Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
I've got some feedback regarding using the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Card Premium Edition 200 GB card with this player. Got this on Cyber Monday for ~US$100. Now straight off the bat this card did not play nice, not sure because it's formatted as exFAT and whether Jelly Bean 4.3 has issues...- curtain

Acoustic Research M2 Audiophile-Grade Hi-Res Portable
A few days with now with my new Acoustic Research AR-M2 paired with the Audeze LCD-3s and what impresses is: *the clarity and space between instruments and vocals *the lack of distortion and lack of coloration *the amplification for a portable device (at full volume on 99% of tracks it is...- curtain

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
Apologies if I'm going to sound like a cliched noob but I don't post often and I just bought the LCD3 (serial 2615XXX's) and they are worth every cent. I've had the LCD2 R1's for a couple of years now, they are late revision 1's just before the R2's came out, so I thought I had a reasonable...- curtain

Logitech Z-2300 : The Last of the Titans
Quote: Yeah I agree with this post. I just bought the Z623 after short-listening tests in-store. All the desktop / ipod dock speakers I listened to sounded very hi-fi, from terrible to tolerable. What in the world is going on with the Monster Beats by Dr Dre beatbox? They should...- curtain

New Audeze LCD3
Quote: Perhaps, but you're not gaining a directly proportional $1000 worth of value either, so hyperbole needs to be kept in check. This is especially evident with Leica which I also find proponents being especially guilty of (and I'm an avid owner) Quote: It's refreshing...- curtain

LCD3 Measurements
Revealing measurements, but also illustrative to what amounts to quite a sample variation with the LCD2's and the implications for version 3? I hope you get to test another 3. Perhaps some of us are what you might call "Beta testers" to a point when it comes to this headphone line, but I'd...- curtain

HE-6/LCD-2 vs the classics (R-10, Qualia, K1000, Stax, L3000, etc.) Avoid the landmines.
Quote: If anything the dynamics I've listened to have some smaller, fist-like and for lack of a better word, deformed space, performing in such as manner as to ask for your attention not unlike a jester. The LCD2 sound is all about drawing you irresistibly into a place to...- curtain

Testing audiophile claims and myths
Quote: I think the discussion of a lossy file being indistinguishable from a lossless one for a group of people is valid for them certainly, however it's drawing a long bow to use that as an argument as to what is valuable for everyone else. People are adult enough to make a...- curtain

Testing audiophile claims and myths
Well this argument could be applied to anything, as in photography when capturing and reproducing a waveform as light is, you would still technically capture a better photo on a day with bad light with a top end DSLR than a point and shoot. I may have sleep in my eyes or a hang over or my...- curtain

New Schiit Lyr: Hybrid 6W Headphone Amp. Yes. Six. Watts. RMS.
Quote: I appreciate these comments however there is no mention of the advantage of such a high output design in respect to dynamics with the LCD2. There have been comments that the LCD2's "open up" with 2W or more and I'm wondering if this just means you can blow your brains out with...- curtain

Jason, I would like to pre-order however your Australian distributor i-enjoy.com.au has not replied to my enquiry about when the Lyr will be available for pre-order in Australia. Do you have any information about this. It is a little frustrating not being able to do this. Thank you. Edit...- curtain

headphone audiophiles, what do you encode at?
LAME 192 vs 320 is night and day for me, 320's are so much richer. I don't bother with LAME unless I have to. FLAC is 1st preference followed by oggs @ 7.- curtain

I like the video playback of the iRIVER too, the 255,000 color screen and audio works really well. You can now watch movies, cartoons, music videos of your mp3's on a portable device that fits into your pocket. I recently encoded a CG cartoon and the quality is amazing, and regular...- curtain
