Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread

What astonished me a bit was the T90's behavior at the volume knob. All my other stuff is to be regulated on a 2mm radius for proper listening volume. Not so the Tesla, the proper radius is more like 10mm. That goes hand in hand with the minimal volume. They still sound coherent with sufficient...

Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread

Am I a bit late to the Party? Nevertheless, here's my T90 Journey. Always been a Beyer man, started with the old 770'250 in 2002. I must have had the DT880 at least 3 times, the last one, the 600 ohm Edition, has been my workhorse and reference for more than a decade. Never liked the Teslas...

This was a bad buy. I wanted the "Pro" version for my son, as solution for his onboard sound issues. Got the non pro version without the DAC functionality (can be used as DAC though with FIIO X1, X3II, X3 Mark III, X5II or E17K put into the mount). Guess it was my bad, somewhere in the text was...

Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]

Don't know, never heared a magnum system. Propably the soundscape will increase similar to all other models mentioned here, but it will alter the sound. It's unpredictable if you get blown away or get underwhelmed.

Study Shows No Correlation Between Price and Sound Quality in Headphones

I'd say, it also depends from the music style that's thrown onto the HPs. I can definetely enjoy simple stuff like Easy Listening or Ambient with my EQ'ed rig as much as with my audiophile home rig. EQing really solves the tonality problems of a , say, 20€ HD201. However, when music gets more...

    Show us your vintage headphones!

As we are at it: This is my RP18 Mylar. Not a beauty, but very modding friendly...meanwhile. I have damped mine with Micropore, Transpore and felt. It has quite worn AT W1000 pads with taped stuff put into it, to increase soundstage and comfort. The housing is closed, the open grille is just...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I wonder why everybody just went the Audeze path, that also includes the 1:1 Fazor copy. Me and the other vintage ortho geeks used relatively inexpensive pads (Beyer, AKG, AT etc.) in combination with felt or medical tapes to tune our big old T50v1 clones and others to our liking. Pad rolling in...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Thanks for the advice, reminds me of the times when I was the advisor, lol. I will be definetely looking for that 2nd hand HE560 option you've mentioned. Reading (and viewing) all the M1060 reviews, I can't help thinking of severe batch-to-batch variations. I have been on a dozen meets in my...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I'm on a budget, and things I don't mod haven't been invented yet ^^ How does the 1060 perform with electronica, such as ambient or Drum & Bass?

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Damn, was 5 or more years away from headfi, and now this. Have a severe ortho bite for years though, only the vintage ones till now, love my RP18s. Gotta get some cash for the M1060...

    GS1000 pads in New York?

My friend will arrive Tuesday night and stay all week in NY.   I already got a tip via PM from joseph69, suggesting B&H superstore, 420 9th Ave, near Madison Square garden

    GS1000 pads in New York?

A friend of mine takes a trip to New York and has agreed to source me a pair of GS1K pads. Does any of you folks know a NY store with adress, where they are available right away?   The ones I have had in use for years have started falling to pieces, and the shipping costs to the EU are...

No wonder that you were undwhelmed by the Ulti when being a Stax creature. Stax is all about resolution and fidelity, whereas the whole Gradessandro bunch only does work-to-rule in that respect. In fact, I wouldn't say the Ulti's resolution is noticeably superior to HD600 or so. You get a MS1K...

Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]

Mids are are a question of taste. I personally dislike recessed mids as much as overpronounced mids. IMO, the stock Gradessandros have too much mids, and the mods fixes that. I've compareded the MS1K and the Ulti to many other HPs, their tonality is very close to the super natural AKG...

Don't want to be the party crusher, but I've yet to hear a Magnum 1000 that did sound as good as a MS1K or a Ulti. The 2 models I built for others were okay-ish, but...

ApatN is right, you should have left the felt in place. And what you have listened to was technically a pair of MS1K v.1.0, they were far from sounding great in those days. The 3 drill holes in the distancers have solved the shrillness issues and have also brought back most of the mids, which...

Don't want to trouble you, Jeff, but a (MS1-based) MS1000 or the MS Pro Ulti perform close-to-perfection IMO in respect of these very genres - I am a hardcore electronicahead. You get the right amount of brilliance & fundamental notes, that famous soundscape, and also a very nice bass foundation...

Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]

My forum hitrate has decreased by 95%, but I still listen almost as much as in the "hot days". I wouldn't say my other bestiary collects dust, but the Ms Pro Ulti is still my main HP. It may not provide as thunderous speaker-like bass as my ortho, but all the rest is still the perfect package...
