HIFIdiy's mini USB DAC MK2--Also a headphone amp!

I think they come with both op-amp socketed by default (I asked for them before ordering), simply request both DIP8 sockets are installed just to be sure when ordering.

The OPA2604 is used in the headphone amp section, the OPA2134 is used in the DAC buffer section which passes to both the head amp and RCA out. At stock the Aune is very good. You will require 2x OPA627 (officially sourced genuine ones are expensive, ebay flooded with fakes) and the correct...

I'd leave the dual AD744s in place of the OPA2604. I'm thinking about replacing the OPA2134 with either the OPA2107 or OPA2111, just did a price check with an online supplier, both are dual opamps in a single package, each cost around 7-8x the price of the stock OPA2134!

I swapped the OPA2604 with dual AD744s today, boy does this unit really sing now! Anyone tried swapping out the OPA2134 and replacing it with something like the OPA2107 or the OPA2111?

IIRC the DC plug is 2.1mm for the Aune.

SPDIF output on the pc needs to be enabled found from Master Volume > Options > Properties, make sure SPDIF is enabled and not muted. I would just use the USB connection instead.

Yes of course you can, the A/D switch is just the source switch, the Analog inputs or the Digital coaxial/USB at the back of the unit. There is RCA out at the back to hook the DAC up to a separate speaker amplifier.

The udac is a bit weak driving some phones, the udac is worth the 100 bucks even just as a standalone dac hooked up to a separate amplifier.

I ordered the aune unit with the opamps socketed, does anyone know of a place online that will ship to the EU where I can order 2x AD744 with the correct dual socket adaptor? Edit: Is this the correct adaptor for fitting pair of AD744s? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-Dual-to-Mon...item3346ccb9f6

You can, you just need to use one of those 3.5mm female input to rca stereo adaptors.

IMHO you should simply swap out the OPA2604 OPAMP in the headphone section first, test how the different OPAMP sounds to you for a while before changing anything else. The AD744 in OBCA mode apparently turns this DAC/amp unit into something even more incredible.

The Maverick Audio looks like a clone of a unit that has been around for a while, there is very little info about the Maverick unit, specs for the DAC, amp, USB receiver etc is as vague as you can get, 10 foot barge pole springs to mind... The good looking case is the only thing I can be...

Yes I'd start with swapping out both the stock opamps as well, I'm sure the more knowledgeable members here in the DIY section could advise on a few mods to improve this unit further.

The DAC is bargain at $150, I'd opt for this over the more expensive Cambridge Audio Dacmagic or Musical Fidelity V-DAC, a significant upgrade in quality over this will cost you several times more...

Like most/all DACs with USB input, running on Windows/Linux should work straight out of the box plug and play without additional drivers.

$150, $180, now $200?!!! It won't be too long before they jack up the price again, the DAC is very cheap to build, for the price there are better DACs available for less.
