Different, yes, maybe. Better? Not sure. A balanced amp requires a phase inverter stage somewhere in the signal path and it introduces a delay that maybe makes balanced sound different than single-ended. Is it technically better than single ended? No, of course! Single ended has no technical...

What are the best headphones for mixing Electronic Music?

I think you didn't understand what I was trying to tell you. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. What I was trying to say is that I don't think you really have to compare Ultrasone to Beyer (or any other headphone) with such a great passion. It's not like it's a competition between headphones and...

I think ignorance is mainly falling for the ridiculous technical arguments that most companies provide to audiophiles about balanced drive, cables, transport mechanisms, etc. In the end I'd say there is partly some truth to those claims, but they are stretched way too much. Quote...

You can use a high powered and faster single-ended amp and get the same results as far as power and speed are concerned. Quote: Originally Posted by grawk The benefits are that + and - are both amplified, resulting in greater speed and control. You effectively quadruple the power...

The best AMP for my DT990s below $500

+1 When you are to the point of trying to correct headphones by using amplification, there is something wrong somewhere. And BTW, your Beyers are designed for 120-ohms output jacks. Keep that in mind. You haven't heard the real Beyers till you use a 120-ohms jack with plenty of drive...

What are the best headphones for mixing Electronic Music?

You can like your Ultrasone all you want dude! You're taking this way too seriously... I won't be switching to Ultrasone anytime soon, if anything, I'll buy a Beyer DT990 or DT880 to improve upon the DT770. Enjoy your S-LOGIC thing. Quote: Originally Posted by Peter Pinna I'm...

The technical reasons I've read so far about balanced drive (and upgrading cables) on many websites don't hold up at all IMO. All this noise immunity and common ground crosstalk thing especially really don't make sense to me. Quote: Originally Posted by grawk There are lots of good...

I know, but I couldn't refrain from doing it. Being on such audiophile forums gets me so angry about this kind of thing that it might explode in anger at any time. I think I'll take a break of this community before it happens. Quote: Originally Posted by espire This isn't the place...

It's your money and your time. I believe in science, you believe in your ears. To each his own. Auditory memory is so poor that I don't trust my ears for A/B comparisons anymore. Quote: Originally Posted by grawk Having ears, I hear the benefit in running balanced.

Exactly. Having a strong electrical engineering background, I see no purpose in running headphones balanced at all. Quote: Originally Posted by penger The improvement is whatever you can hear.

Studio headphones for a new old-school recording studio?

Yes, the DT100 has no bass and no treble extension. It is very midrangey and mainly for vocal use (talkshows, sports shows, radio shows, etc.) The DT150 is full range and sounds A LOT better for music. Quote: Originally Posted by DefectiveAudioComponent Thanks, I am very...

Studio headphones for a new old-school recording studio?

Well here's my advice...the ATH-M50 doesn't sound good at all. No mids, no soundstage, claustrophobic sounding, just like the Sony MDR-7506. Go for the Beyer DT150, Beyer DT770, Sennheiser HD25 or even the AKG K271MKII instead if you want closed cans that sound decent. Quote...

Audio Technica ATH-M50 Does anyone know anything about this?

To my ears, the ATH-M50 are VERY bassy and the mids are scooped.Totally non accurate, non-flat, whatever. It's just a big bassy muuddy mess with no mids and lots of piercing treble. Very scooped sounding. Having that said, I still prefer them over the Sony 7506 because the 7506 are just...

DT100 are very midrangey sounding and not good for listening IMO. Go for the Beyer DT150, lots of stores have em here also. Quote: Originally Posted by DefectiveAudioComponent Also, how about the DT100 to use for listening to drums (in recording session)?

A studio magazine? You gotta be kidding me... Those articles are like paid advertisements, just like in the audiophile magazines. Why not try some for yourself and see! Pretty much any serious musical instrument store has em. Quote: Originally Posted by DefectiveAudioComponent But...

The DT770 that you tried are the drummer-oriented version of the DT770. They are reputedly "bad" sounding compared to the regular DT770-250 or DT770-80. They were purposely made bassier and with less highs in order for drummers to perform better. They are NOT meant for anyting else than that...

What are the best headphones for mixing Electronic Music?

Even the most accurate headphone on the planet will not be able to convey phase relationships from the left to the right channel without crossfeed. Having that said, with or without crossefeed, it is TRUE that one should seek for the most accurate headphones available. In my case I find...

    Bose and BestBuy

I'm quite sure that the headphone output on the Denon receiver is of higher quality than the output jack on your iPOD. It's just that your ears prefer the response offered by the iPOD better. But the fact is that the headphone output on the Denon has better frequency response, better driving...

    DT880 detail

I think you are on to something here...many audiophiles equal high frequency response with detail and low frequency response as mud. Them audiophiles expect tight, less than accurate bass and extremely brittle high-end. Then they call that "flat". Makes me laugh everytime ! Quote...

What are the best headphones for mixing Electronic Music?

Peter, it doesn't matter if the cans are plugged straight into the mixing board. If you don't use crossfeed, you can't properly judge the phasing issues that exist between the left and right drivers. Is it possible to mix on cans without crossfeed? YES! but getting good results will take much...

Never tried it. I'm completely anti-Grado, so take my comment with a grain of salt. The only Grados I've tried are the SR325i and I don't wish to try anymore of em. Quote: Originally Posted by hauntingtheholy What do you think of the SR-60?

I appreciate your admiration for the Ultrasone Proline 750. I had the opportunity to buy some prolines 750 and 2500 at an excellent price, but didn't even bother to try them out. I don't believe in their S-Logic thing and many users have reported that they sound weird because of that. Also...

    CD900ST pics and short review

These graphs show exactly why the 7506 and 7509HD sound bad. I loved my 7509 when I had them, even though the bass had no extension below 50 Hz, the remaining spectrum was excellent.
