Bass and mid/high tone on the diaphragm will always lead to some distortion. That is why planar loudspeaker Manufacturer split the bass section to avoid that. The bigger the stroke on the diaphragm the worse it sounds. A lot of planar demos at the HighEnd Munich suffer from "the too loud"...

They are very close to each other and i think the 009S get equal if you like to use more volume. Maybe the electrodes made that difference. I still feel the 009S is more sensestive or different in potential on good recording qualities. On better recording quality i like the 009S more.

have the 4040 signature + srm 006tII-- and a 007 MKII and 009 now on BHSE. As the 009 was brand new on market my amp still was the 006mkII and that 009 was a dramatic change in over all sound quality. Upgrade to a d-02 DAC and a BHSE improved the system too but the 009 was the key component imo.

007 MKII -- really audible effect after some time 009 no.1  -- no break-in effect 009 no.2 -- no break-in effect   ... to my ears!
