    M-Audio DSM3

These have been discontinued, but the few that have them are all audio engineers :)   I just bought a pair, they are supposedly very good for value and underpriced (undercutting the competition of Adam AX7 and others at such pricepoint).

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Dear Liamstrain, Quote:   Don't be ridiculous, do you really think I crawled through your past posts to see what your opinions are and what your favourite icecream is??? I only see what you present to me, here.   But that is good to know you are now doing a 180 degrees turnaround...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Yes I did not perform a double blind, only a blind, stupid Senjy bandying words around. I miswrote. That happens. I'm sorry. I will not edit it away so you can all laugh at me.   However Liamstrain, you're missing the point..........   If you do not trust your own ears, whose are you...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Quote:     Forgive me, but I see the word 'potential' in every thread regarding the AKG K702 with amp. Have yet to read one that doesn't (would be hard pressed to find such a thread). Even if I am wrong about that, it is still a widespread opinion regarding the K70X, am I wrong?  ...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Quote: Yes it is...yes it is. I think it's wonderful how nowadays engineers have this amazingly generous mindset, they don't mind giving away their own research or revealing to us the issues that they discuss between themselves, in comparison to the old days when everything was hush...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Oh of course crossfeed or a similar effect (whether intentional or from a bad amp) will affect the soundstage, but that should never be built straight into an amp without the choice...and if it is a bad amp, well I am not comparing that.  As I have stated before, you are going to hear a...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Quote:   It is comments like this all over every thread on the internet. Listen to me. In simple terms, your headphone creates a stereo image by playing an instrument louder in one ear than the other, or at the furthest extreme (hardpanned), only in one ear. How in the freaking hell...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Hey all, it's me again, the op :)   What's up with the notifications from head-fi? I got an email just then for this thread, and realized that email is LATE on the ball, many replies...nvm I am here now, and it looks like I need to do some talking   Well since the first set of AB tests...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

I just retried my vol control on my itouch because of you Nick. When I hit around 80% I went "ah ****" and had to pull back before I permanently damaged my ears. If I listen normally like this Ipod Touch => K702 I have the volume at 25%. 80% was past my threshold and painful as if my friend...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Here's more clarification of my AB testing done with an ipod touch.   Contrary to popular belief, my own listening has shown that there is no   Tightening or boosting of bass Taming of highs Widening or opening of soundstage   Any other changes in your sound going from badly...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

Probably does blow from a laptop (or so i've been led to believe, read on), but my interface has a built-in headphone amp - although apparently its not suitable for these 'hard-to-drive' k702 headphones.   I also have AB'd from my ipod touch and then from my ipod touch into the Arietta into...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

You're right, no the ProFire isn't "unamped", but it's 'technically' not rated to be able to drive the K702's properly. So says everyone.   Why not? I can take the levels so high as to damage your ears, and more, even though it supposedly is not right for it.   The Arietta, however, is...

Akg K-702 - Amped vs Unamped : Can't hear much of a difference?

@Headfiers Have you AB'd material with your hard to drive headphones when 'unamped' vs 'amped'? I have, multiple times.   For your info my signal chain is as follows : M-Audio ProFire 610 => Meier Audio Corda Arietta => Akg K-702   After switching the Arietta in/out of my signal chain...

Gain Control on Headphone Amp vs. Audio Interface

@Head-fiers,   Which gain control should I turn up? The one on my headphone amp or the one on my audio interface? Right now I have a mix of the two in case of any tiny distortion that may or may not be caused by full amplification on either device. I AB'd both gain controls multiple times on...

Very specific amp needed, calling all AKG K70x 701 702 owners who use it for mixing

Quote: hmm well I found the Headfive, but since it is discontinued, I have no idea to its specs etc. Acix do you remember anything about it? because I live in Aus and I'm not surer how the power would affect here, also does it use RCA inputs?   thanks again

Very specific amp needed, calling all AKG K70x 701 702 owners who use it for mixing

Quote: Ask and ye shall receive? haha Thanks Acix love ya! I'll be checkin those out   @Deep Funk - yes indeed you can. 2 independent headphone outputs with individual volume controls.  Right now I can achieve very respectable levels (damaging even) on the K702's, but apparently you...

Very specific amp needed, calling all AKG K70x 701 702 owners who use it for mixing

Ok so I haven't made peace yet, it's too much of a risk to leap out and get the M-stage without confirmation from someone who uses the 70X's for referencing (it costs almost as much as I paid for the K702's!!)   So bump.

Very specific amp needed, calling all AKG K70x 701 702 owners who use it for mixing

Quote: And the HA400 puts out only 40mW@100ohms, hardly an amp you would want to use. Plus I have no need for 4 separate hp outs, I am not tracking with 4 musicians, and I would never use that for monitoring a band.

Very specific amp needed, calling all AKG K70x 701 702 owners who use it for mixing

The FTU's built in amp doesn't provide enough power to drive the K702s. But never mind all this :)   After some more research I have made peace with myself with choosing the Matrix M-Stage

AH nono, sorry I meant this dac/amp combo I was looking up, but that's a different thing. Disregard it aha I'll go and brush up on my terminology   Do  you have any other suggestions besides the Objective2 amp? Such as a commercial product?

Actually I wanna take back my thanks give my words back!   I read the thread and the schematics...I only just got into this amp game, I got freaked out by the complexity - this is way ahead of me. I also don't have the time to spend on making something like this, and I just realized I...

Hi head-fi guys!   I would like some help please   I just bought a pair of K702's and they're waiting to be driven, and I'm going to use it as a second reference during mixing. I don't know much about headphone amps, but I do know that most of the threads I've looked at are from hi-fi...
