DIY Cable Gallery!!
Quote: Well, that depends. I'm working on an 8-braid Cat5 headphone cable (only using the inner cables, not the thick insulation). Without sleeving it's not too stiff, but has strong memory effect. With an added shrink tube there's no memory effect, but it becomes really stiff... I...- PinkysBrain

1st time DIY: How do you remove enamel from copper wires?
When replugging my CX300 I used the hot solder iron to scratch it off. Even if I didn't get all the paint off, it was enough. I also read in some recabling guide that you can use aspirin together with a solderin iron. The acid that is produced when burning the tablet (ventilate your...- PinkysBrain

AKG K518 K81 detachable cable mod single entry. Guide + lots of pictures
I actually haven't bought it, yet. I wanted a chassis from Neutrik, but they only have some for 1/4" plugs. This was the first one I could find in Germany that seemed viable.- PinkysBrain

AKG K518 K81 detachable cable mod single entry. Guide + lots of pictures
Really nice mod. I'll try to do it with my K519. As for the 3,5mm chassis: I found this one, which might blend in better with the cans It's a cheap one from BKL Electronics (1€)...- PinkysBrain

Rank the IEM's you've heard
Meelec CC51 ≧Beyerdynamic DXT101 > AKG 324p (decent for the money) > Klipsch S4 (harsh, sibilance) > CX300 (muddy) > EP-630 (bad driver flex, harsh) > AKG 330 (bad, uncomfortable)- PinkysBrain

What was your "gateway drug" IEM?
Some Sony IEMs in 2000 which I had for about 5-6 years. Bought them at that time together with my MiniDisc player - ahhh, the good ol' days. I can't remember the model number so it's hard to provide any pictures Had wire problems and I didn't know at that time, that I could have repaired...- PinkysBrain

Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)
Quote: If you don't mind breaking the clip I would definitely remove the clip. The CW31 has a clip that is easily removable and I still hope that they will produce a similar one for the CC51 - unfortunately the clip of the CW31 is not compatible with the CC51. While most...- PinkysBrain

Multi-IEM Review - 352 IEMs compared (Pump Audio Earphones added 04/03/16 p. 1106)
You should really consider removing the shirt clip! I'd even go so far and break it apart (for safety reasons), as 1) it doesn't stick to the cable (=> cable is too thin) and 2) it has sharp edges that can damage the cable even if you do not remove it. Meelec knows of the problem and they...- PinkysBrain

@Niyologist You should ask ljokerl how well the Phonak ear guides work together with the CC51 before you buy them. The CC51 are simply not made to be worn over the ear. Maybe the ear guides can stabilize them in your ear, because without any ear guide when worn over the ear -they simply don't...- PinkysBrain

Waah, my VSonic GR07 broke!
If you compare the CC51 to some CX300 the difference in noozle size is huge, because the silver housing is so big! => The tips have to be bigger. So if one of the four stores with Meelecs is close to you, just walk into one and ask if you can try them. Good thing about them is that...- PinkysBrain

Waah, my VSonic GR07 broke!
My brother has the DTX101 and he likes them. You could just buy them (and maybe you could get them custom fitted afterwards. Beyerdynamik has this service, if I remeber correctly. He had it done when he bought them new, though).- PinkysBrain

Waah, my VSonic GR07 broke!
Meelec has 4 retailers in Poland. There are 4 stores listed in Poland in Wroclaw, Lodz, Warszawa and Chorzow (http://www.meelec.com/Articles.asp?ID=135). So if you live in one of these cities... (Also, amazon.fr has a good price at the moment, but I don't know if that's a viable option if...- PinkysBrain

Headphone crackling issue or source material?
You can just test it by using a different pair of headphone or speakers on the same audio device with the same song...if it is the song than you should hear the crackling even on crappy earphones.- PinkysBrain

Best IEM's I can get for under $90?
You can also get the Meelec CC51P. They come with a microphone and should be compatible to your iPhone. Also they are a really cheap at amazon.com (= 55$): http://www.amazon.com/MEElectronics-Clarity-Headphone-Microphone-Smartphones/dp/B004OBZ2YU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308318945&sr=8-1...- PinkysBrain

Need New In-Ear Headphones to replace my old cx300 at a price range of 80$
I wouldn't buy the S4 either. While the clarity is okay, they sound harsh. You will especially notice it if you are used to CX300 (as I was). As for the fit: The tips are much stiffer that the ones of the CX300. Also it is harder to find the right fit for optimal isolation, as the tips have a...- PinkysBrain
